If you grew up with dreams of being a sailor, mortician, and hotel manager, then look no further than Spitfarer to live out your best life. Caring for souls of the dead has never been so touchy and fun as it is in Spitfarer, as you get to explore the world and cherish the memories that souls made while they were living, all while making new ones of your own with them, giving them one last taste of love before they depart to the afterlife.

Visuals

The game presents a simple, two-dimensional layout for easy management, similar to that of Fallout Shelter, with the world of the citizens residing in your area cut in half, all for your viewing pleasure and ease of playing. However, do not let this make you believe that anything you see will be boring or a drag.

The scenes you come across are full of peace and tranquility, with calming waters, backgrounds, and soothing colors to complement the entire landscape as the sun rises and falls with shades of orange, red, blue and purple to complement morning, noon, and dusk scenes on the ship. Each character also presents something new visually, as they have a level of personality to their looks, each being unique enough for you to remember them and their story.

Gameplay

Living your life out as Stella the spit farer, a ferry master for the dead, seems like it may be dull just crossing the waters all day looking for corpses, but there is a theme park of emotional roller coasters that players will end up experiencing within Spitfarer. Stella does have a lot of duties, as the player will need to tend to all residents on the ship and the ship itself, ensuring they are on course to deliver the residents to the afterlife on time and in good shape with materials to upgrade and build onto the ship, similar to a player’s duty in Animal Crossing.

In the freetime Stella has, however, she develops deep relationships with the passengers on her ship, being the bridge between their last life and their next one. Learning to manage an entire ship of souls will be easy compared to learning to say goodbye to those who possess the ship for their passage. Each resident has a story that the player gets to learn, meeting all different shapes and sizes of individuals to fill their time as eternal captain of a cruise to doom.
