Spikair Volleyball

Holy crap did Spikair Volleyball surprise the hell out of me! I like volleyball, I like to play it, I like to watch it and I have liked many video games based on it over the years. During my college days I played a lot of volleyball and as those days are long gone, volleyball in the virtual world, but there are not many games based on this sport out there, but this one here is truly one of the best. The thing is, I think this is a great first step as they have the groundwork for the ultimate volleyball game here.

The Good Old College Days

Nope, my talking about the glory of my college volleyball days was not a foreshadowing to this, Spikair Volleyball features a league/competition that I would say is more like college sports than pro sports. You have your team for a few years and then the players move on. I think that this game needs a pro league or a series of leagues for us to play through. The way it is now, you cannot get a real connection with your players as by the time they are elite, they are moving on. Hey, as a college sports sim it works, but they need to go for the pros here in my humble opinion.

The Satisfaction Of A Good Spike

What I think Spikair Volleyball nails above all else is the core gameplay, the actual games of volleyball you will be partaking in are so addictive. I played this with a friend and it honestly did not matter if I won or lost, I was having fun. The controls are perfect and the best thing about it is when you perform a perfect spike, it feels so satisfying, you actually feel like you are connecting with the ball. The game is pretty easy to pick up and play, but there is a level of skill here for those who want to master and strategize. I would say that the game walks that fine line between being a sports sim and an arcade sports game so much so that even if you are not into volleyball at all, you can have fun with this.

The Dream Team

Building an elite team of volleyball players is the aim of the game in Spikair Volleyball. You can train your players to make them better and there is just something so very satisfying. As I already said, the core gameplay here is fantastic, so addictive and so much fun. However, the one thing that is missing is some content! There is simply not enough here to keep a person playing this in single-player entertained. I think they need to have a robust league system with a deep career mode, something like what a FIFA 23 or an EA Sports FC24 offers. Playing this with other people will provide endless fun, but I love to also play sports games on my own so I would love for them to take this exact game, but add more content.

Retro Style, Retro Cool!

The presentation of Spikair Volleyball is something that I really like, they have gone for a kind of modern retro vibe with the visuals. The players have a 3D pixel art look to them and they are animated so smoothly, I actually think the smooth animations are a huge part of the reason as to why the game feels so satisfying to play. I also love the way the camera swings a little, almost like it follows the ball from serve to being in play. It is hard to explain, but it is a cool and dynamic effect and makes the game even more exciting. The court and arena look cool, but like the game modes, I think that they could add more variety in regards to where you are playing volleyball.

Pros:

• The game has a very cool retro style to it
• Gameplay wise, this is one of the best volleyball games I have played
• I liked building my team
• The bones are here for an epic follow-up

Cons:

• The game is great, but it is lacking a bit in content
• Your players leave your teams far too soon

Spikair Volleyball is a pixel sports game where you will have a chance to get a volleyball team. Will you be able to become champions and get into the famous league? Practice hard, make winning strategies and skillfully maintain team spirit. Manage the players on the pitch. It will be much easier to win with the help of your friends. Sort out the players and make a real team, where each player is responsible for a position on the field.
