Shin chan: Shiro and the Coal Town is a delightful adventure game starring Shinnosuke, also known as Shin-chan, a preschooler traveling with his family to Akita. There they live a relaxed lifestyle out in the countryside, until one day Shin-chan accidentally discovers an unusual train.

The train not only takes him out of Akita, it takes him into a whole new world. The steampunk style town he travels to is called “Coal Town,” and it has a whole new set of adventures for him. Shin-chan must balance his adventures in Coal Town with the adventures of the real world in this whimsical new game.

Developed by H.A.N.D., Inc. and published by Neos Corporation, Shin-chan’s world comes to life through some of the most talented people in the industry. H.A.N.D. has only a few games completed as of yet, namely Gabbuchi and the warmly received Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Complete Edition, it’s clear their games are well liked.

Beautiful Artwork

One of the first things players notice in this unique point-and-click adventure game is the artwork. The artwork is 2D style so exquisitely done that it even won an award for it. Shin chan: Shiro and the Coal Town received the Visual Arts Excellence Award for its artwork. They received this award from the Japanese based CEDEC video game awards.

Well Received in Asian Markets

Although Shin chan: Shiro and the Coal Town isn’t yet out in Western markets, it has already been released in Japan, followed later by the rest of the Asian market. There, the game was welcomed warmly, staying at the top of the South Korean market during its debut.

Although the new game won’t be available for Western players until October, fans can still get a glimpse of what the game might be like through a prior release, Shin chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation The Endless Seven-Day Journey. A limited addition bundle on steam will be available giving players both games for a discounted price.

Packed with Mini-Games

Beyond the overarching storyline, the game has a generous number of mini-games to keep players busy. This includes fishing and bug catching in Akita and inventing new things in Coal Town. Players can also race around on trollies in Coal Town’s entertainment center.

In an exciting addition to the trolly racing, players can upgrade their trollies to help them race better. This includes melee parts that allow players to distract other racers, as well as parts that help navigate corners more smoothly.

There are a number of different tracks available to keep players on their toes during the racing experience.
