Severed Steel

Balls to the wall is probably the best way to describe what Severed Steel is offering. This is a first-person shooter that is all about running and gunning and taking people down in brutal fashion and blowing holes in walls and using your epic parkour moves to get out of the way of gunfire. It is one of those games where pretty much everyone who sees it in action is going to say that it looks cool and that they want to try it out.

It Was the One Armed Woman!

I have to say that if you want an epic and deep story like some other first-person shooters have these days then you may be disappointed. While it may not have a ton of story, Severed Steel does have a very interesting premise and that is we play as a one-armed badass female who has to kick ass and kill everyone in each area! It has a kind of sci-fi John Wick thing going on which I think is pretty cool.

Taking Them All Down!

The goal of each level is to get through it and kill every enemy in each level. The AI here is unscripted so the enemies will never behave the same way twice which I think is really cool. I know that the idea of having to kill everyone in a level before moving on sounds basic, but Severed Steel is far from basic when it comes to the gameplay.

Don’t Stop Moving

It is the movement of your character that makes this such an amazing experience. This is a very fast-paced game and you will be running and jumping all over the place. Jumping through windows or blasting a hole in the wall, sliding to avoid being shot, and more. You feel like an athletic badass and you are always on the movie. Standing still for too long in this game is a death sentence! The gunplay feels great and there is no reloading here, you run out of bullets, you need to grab a new gun from a fallen foe!

Is This The Early 2000s!

Remember when in the early 00s when bullet time (thanks Matrix) was in tons of games and movies? Well, Severed Steel is bringing it back and they are doing it in a way that is not only very cool and badass, but also essential to the gameplay.

Each level has you massively outgunned, but you can dodge and activate bullet time and when you do this you take no damage. It is a very cool system and a little bit like the Witch Time thing in Bayonetta.

Pros:

• Our heroine is one badass chick
• I love who fast-paced the gameplay is
• It has an excellent use of bullet time
• This game is just a ton of fun to play

Cons:

• There is not a ton of story here
• It may take a while to get to grips with how fast the gameplay is
