Even though I knew coming into Sensei! I Like You So Much! That the game had that dreaded abandoned tag, and that the developer has basically washed their hands of this thing. I still wanted to play it, as when I read the synopsis of what the game was, it sounded interesting, as it had a bit of a cyberpunk and sci-fi thing going on. Well, let me tell you right away, this is freaking weird, so weird that I do think it is worth checking out if you want to try an unusual and lesser-known lewd visual novel.
That… Sounds Interesting
Now, what really drew me to Sensei! I Like You So Much! was not just the hot chicks; it was the story. The premise here is that our main character is a man called Richard, and Richard is moments away from death; all of the decisions that he has made in his life have led to this moment. However, we then flash back and we get to make decisions that can dramatically alter the way his life turns out. On the flip side of this, we could make the same decisions he did and end back right where the game started. As a premise, this is pretty awesome and has me very interested.
The First Draft
The thing is, Sensei! I Like You So Much! never really builds on the premise and the story, even though it has cyberpunk and sci-fi elements; it just never worked due to the writing being all over the place. It seems like the developer had the basics of an idea and just started throwing stuff against the wall. Hey, I get this, you need to try out story beats to see what works, but it is like they just kept every single idea that they had! This is one of those games that is just crying out for a good editor to go through it and make the story more streamlined and make more sense. It is not even because of the different paths, as most of the things in the game make very little sense.
A Weird Winding Road To Nowhere
As what we are dealing with here in Sensei! I Like You So Much! is a lewd visual novel; the gameplay is mostly you reading the story, trying to follow on, and then making key decisions. To be fair, the game does throw a decent amount of choices in your face, but I will say that due to the writing, it is very, very hard to have a real idea of where your choices may lead. Part of me thinks that this is done on purpose and meant to show the randomness and uncertainty of life. However, I do think it is more than the story has not been edited all that way, and things just seem to go all over the place.
Cyberpunky And Hot
While the story may not be designed all that well, Sensei! I Like You So Much! has it going on as far as the visuals go. If you do like cyberpunk and sci-fi, you will get a huge kick out of the fact that there are cybernetic enhancements on some of the characters, and the game does have a kind of sci-fi style about it, which I thought was really neat. There is a decent amount of sex scenes, and I found that the overall style of the game was something that clicked with me really well. Although due to not getting super into the story, that did mean I was not as “connected” to the XXX content as I have been in other lewd games.
I found Sensei! I Like You So Much! to be a very intriguing game in that the developer truly had a great idea for a lewd visual novel with this game. However, I just think that the game needed some editing to keep the story more focused and so that it made more sense. Perhaps they intended to do this, but they decided to call it quits before they got to it? Anyway, if you like cyberpunk and sci-fi, I do think this is worth checking out.
Pros:
- The game has a great premise for a story
- I loved the art style they went for
- The cybernetic enhancement stuff was neat
- I still think this could be saved if they come back to it
Cons:
- The story is so hard to follow
- The game got abandoned, so it is unfinished
