After a very successful Kickstarter campaign, Red Martyr Entertainment, a small Croatian study, managed to double up their original goal for their game Saint Kotar, and now it will be published by Soedesco. Lately, we've seen some sort of a comeback in this type of horror game, and we are glad to see new studios coming up with new and original games in the genre.

Red Martyr Entertainment is a small studio located in Croatia and was funded in 2019. The game director, and CEO of the developer studio, Marko Tominic, has confirmed that the creation and development of the game started two years ago. So, even though it's still a small studio, they've been working hard on this title for quite some time So, what is the game all about, and is it all the excitement worth it? Well, let's talk about it.

About the game

In Saint Kotar, we take the roles of Benedek and Nikolay, and we're given the option to alternate. They are both out to find a missing woman lost in a strange town that seems to be stuck in time. It all seems pretty dark and bizarre as if the entire town is possessed by evil.

Strange murders, crazy phenomena, and odd apparitions, all seem to be linked to some sort of rituals that take place in this town. The entire place seems to be filled with witchcraft and the cult of evil adoration. Will you be able to solve the missing woman case, and find out what's really going on in this strange town? Or will you just be another victim of this place? Solve puzzles and follow clues if you want to survive this intense experience.

Gameplay

Saint Kotar is all about choices, and the consequences they carry. It is a point-and-click adventure, filled with horror and classic-style puzzles and gameplay. It really has an air like the classic point-and-click games like Monkey Island but in a much darker tone.

Of course, this is completed by the handmade art that's directly injected into the game. This makes up for a more organic visual style that feels alive. As if you're watching a dark and disturbing horror book illustrated come to life in front of your eyes.

Saint Kotar is an interesting idea, going back to the roots of the genre and adding more modern ideas for horror. Using art made by hand seems to be a trend lately in indie games. But of course, all art in video games is technically made by hand, what we really mean by this is making it like it is in traditional art styles and methods.
