RPG Time: The Legend of Wright

I have to admit that RPG Time The Legend of Wright does not exactly have a ton of information floating out there right now. However, everyone that I know who has seen this game has flipped out over how amazing it looks and today it is my turn to talk about why this game has gotten RPG enthusiasts so excited. Please note, that there is so little information about this game (we have like one major trailer) that much of what we are talking about today are my own thoughts and opinions on the game.

From The Mind Of A Gamer

The setting for the game is very interesting. RPG Time The Legend of Wright is brought to us from the mind of a guy who dreams of being a game developer. It all takes place on his desk and it features all kinds of typical RPG tropes such as a monster, a princess, epic battles, and so on. The thing is, it is the presentation and the way that this unfolds which has gotten so many people excited.

The Power Of The Pen

What I like most about the game is the notebook drawing style of it. Chunks of the game look like you are playing through the would be game developers notebook and it is just a fantastic effect. Remember back in the 90s when the Genesis game, Comic Zone wanted to make you think you were actually playing through a comic book? Well, it is kind of that same principle, only it looks about a million times better what they have done here.

Paper Crafting Into 3D

When I first heard about this game (which I think was way back at the end of 2019) I did not know or I missed that it would also have a 3D element to it. You see as well as the notebook sections, RPG Time The Legend of Wright also has parts of the game that are like papercraft come to life. Of course, Paper Mario is the easy comparison here, but I think I prefer the style here as it has a more raw and real kind of vibe to it and I get a massive kick out of that. The trailer is all in Japanese, but it does show off some fun RPG style mini-games that take great advantage of the clever art style.

What About The Deets?

RPG Time The Legend of Wright is being made by just two people, the stuff that a small team can do these days is just crazy! However, a small team also has many challenges, so far, no release date is coming. All we know is that it has a winter release date which could mean anything. Also, PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series are the only platforms that are so far listed as getting this game, so no Switch or PlayStation versions have been hinted at as of yet. Hopefully, this will change as I would love this game to reach as big an audience as possible.

I know that we do not exactly know a great deal about RPG Time The Legend of Wright, but I am very excited for this game and I really do hope that they manage to get it out at some point in the first half of 2022.

Pros:

• The art in this game is something that is truly special
• I am all in with the premise of this game
• The mini games we have seen look like they will be fun
• I like how it offers a mixture of 3D and 2D

Cons:

• I do wonder when exactly this will come out
• I hope they release more details about the actual gameplay sooner than later
