Peekaboo

As I got Peekaboo for like a buck on sale, I was not expecting a great deal, but the fellas and I were looking for something new to play during one of our game nights and one of us came across this. It was on sale, and looked like it might be “ok” so we said what the hell and decided to jump in and play it. And you know what? We had a freaking blast! Look, this is a bit of a hidden gem and something that we ended up playing for the better part of a week over Easter break!

Props vs Hunters

The reason that we decided to give Peekaboo a try was because it reminded one of us about the game mode Prop Hunt from a previous Call of Duty (one of the Black Ops titles I think) that we used to have a fantastic time with. Well, that is basically what we have here, one team plays as the props and has to hide and the other team plays as the hunters and has to... well, hunt the other players. It is good simple fun and while there is not really a “plot” a game like this does not need one if you ask me.

Hiding As A Prop

When you start a match of Peekaboo, you are put into random teams so you do not know if you are going to be a prop or a hunter. When playing as a prop, you can pick from a variety of different objects and then hide around the map. You only have a short amount of time to pick what you want to be and then high tail it out of there. You can move around as a prop too which comes in handy when you are spotted. The smaller an item you are, the harder to find you are, but it takes less damage to kill you.

Hunting As A Hunter!

Playing as a hunter is fun too. Here you have to stroll around the map, hunting down the props and shooting them! You do have some stuff to help you out, you have a radar that has a cold, warm, and hot system to let you know when you are close to a prop so you do not have to go around shooting random things, which you are free to do if you want. When a prop is killed, they will then join the team of hunters until all the props are caught or the time has run out.

More Than Meets The Eye

No there is no Transformers cross over here in Peekaboo, it would be awesome if there was! However, the game tries to add a bit of depth to the mix and add in some replay value by having a simple skill tree. For example, you can get a radar with a larger radius when playing as a hunter or you can zoom around quicker as a prop. It is pretty basic stuff, but all of the stuff is quite useful. The only downside is that this game has a very, very small player base. My group of friends and consist of six people and to be honest that was fine, but some of the maps are larger than others and can feel a bit too large when there are not many players.

Pros:

• This game was a lot of fun to play with my friends
• I like the low poly art style, it has a lot of charm
• Hiding and screwing around as a prop is fun
• Playing as a hunter is awesome too!

Cons:

• A few extra game modes or rules would be cool
• The player base is very small, making getting to a full game rather hard
