Parcel Simulator

Parcel Simulator is a crisply detailed world simulating a parcel delivery service. Players find themselves stepping out of a trailer-turned-bedroom directly into the job they work. They are then tasked with a busy day of sorting packages from mailable and contraband and making sure the ‘good’ packages get where they need to go. This game is very detailed, and at first may feel overwhelming. There’s almost no equipment at all to make your day easier, and instead you have to take the full weight of parcel sorting without any help aside from an email from your boss. Although it may be a struggle at first, the good news is that correctly sorting parcels will give you money you can use to make your day easier.

Sharp Graphics

Most simulators have fairly low-quality graphics. Most people accept this because the point of the game is to experience a different job or lifestyle. It’s a peek into another world, and it’s alright if it’s a little low-poly. This time, the graphics are fairly sharp. The game combines both a well thought out and realistic glimpse of what a real parcel delivery service might look like, and decent graphics to back it up.

Variety of Things to Do

Sorting parcels might not seem like the most interesting thing to do, but the game does a good job of adding variety to spice things up. This includes everything from forklift driving to putting the right sticker on the right package. By breaking things up into a variety of different tasks, the game stays fresh and interesting as the number of parcels grows. The game plays like a mixture of Papers, Please and Factorio, making it a fresh and original game.

Solo Developer

It turns out, the game was indeed inspired by Papers, Please. Solo developer DansanDigital loved the idea of Papers, Please, but thought it would be more interesting with some factory gameplay. The result is this new game. Despite being the only person working on it, Dansan has repeatedly shown he cares about what the community thinks.

He has listened to player feedback from small things like the weight of the parcels being shipped to whether there will be an Xbox port eventually. While it’s likely any future updates will be slow due to the fact that he’s working alone, problems will at least be fixed if they crop up. An active developer is always better than a developer that ghosts the game on launch.

8

This is a very promising simulator with lots to keep players busy. There’s some question about its replayability—once you’ve played it through, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to do something different for a new playing experience. For what it is though, the game provides a rich experience and a realistic peek into what it’s like to own and run a parcel business. If you like simulators and have every been interested in a behind-the-scenes look at UPS or similar, this is a promising game.

Pros:

  • Sharp graphics
  • Interesting set of mini-games and factory building
  • Realistic parcel delivery experience

Cons:

  • Some bugs
