Ody Mos is one of the strangest lewd games that I have ever played! I watched the trailer like three times, trying to figure out what the hell I was looking at and even then, I was kind of off about what this game really is. I thought that it was a comedy and it does have some very, very bizarre stuff going on here, however, there is a tonal shift about halfway through that is very hard hitting and shocking. I am not saying that it was bad at all, but I sure as hell was not expecting it. At its core, this is a lewd physics-based puzzle game and it is honestly unlike any other game I have played before.
Meet Ody
The main character in Ody Mos is Ody, a weird horse looking creature who is an art student, but who also has his own gallery where he works at. Ody has a bit of an interesting kink and that kink is that he likes to put stuff in his butt… yeah. He meets a strange, but cool gecko chick, and the two strike up a very unique kind of friendship. I will say that this is a game with a very strong LGBTQ message and I think that it is pretty cool as a result. The story is so freaking weird and it truly does have some very strange moments, but the further you get into the game, the harder hitting things get.
No Turning Back
About halfway through Ody Mos, there is a scene that I did not see coming and it really did shock me. What started as a weird game about a horse type dude that loved stuff in his butt, turned into something else. Our friend was sexually assaulted and we try to help her deal with that trauma. To say that this is a massive tonal shift for the story is an understatement and some of it was quite hard to deal with. However, it is done very well and with the growing friendship that the two have, it does kind of hit you. Yet, despite this dark turn, they still do some goofy stuff going forward so that kind of back and forth with the tone may not sit well for some people.
Getting To The Lamp
Gameplay wise, Ody Mos is just as freaking weird as the story is. Each stage gives you the challenge of getting Ody to either a dildo or some kind of lamp. Sometimes they are on the wall, the ceiling, or in a more easier to reach area. You basically have to Spider-Man your way to the object Ody wants inserted to him which is easier said than done. As is the case with most physics-based puzzle games, this is pretty tricky, especially as the physics can go all kinds of crazy on you. It can be frustrating in places, especially towards the end of the game, however, it is also a very addictive kind of game where you will always say “just one more try” only to be still there 20 minutes later on your 50th attempt.
Funky Like A Monkey
Ok, so the story is weird, the gameplay is weird and the graphics are also very weird. This is a very bright and zany kind of game that in some ways has a kind of 90s Nicktoon look to it with the bright and wild colors that they have used. Our main characters are interesting to look at and each stage is its own contained thing and overall, I really do like the look of the game. Granted, none of the sexual content “turned me on” however, it is all very well done and there were some scenes that made me laugh. Still, despite the craziness of this game, the hard hitting scenes still do manage to hit very hard.
I can talk about Ody Mos forever, but this is one of those games that is very hard to put into words, the kind of game that you really do have to play in order to appreciate just how bizarre and well done it is. I get that the tonal shift may take some people by surprise, but I really liked it and think that it gave this game a ton of substance. This is a game that stuck with me for a while after I completed it, which thanks to the physics based gameplay was quite a while as it was a very challenging game.
Pros:
- I was shocked by the storytelling in the game
- The two main characters are very interesting
- The physics based puzzle gameplay poses one heck of a challenge
- I loved the quirky and vibrant art style
Cons:
- The later levels get very, very difficult
- The tonal shift in the story about half way through may not click with everyone
