Nightingale

When we got that first trailer for Nightingale at the 2021 Game Awards, I knew this was a game for me. A first-person survival crafting style game with a fantasy setting that looks like it came from the mind of someone like Tim Burton or Steven Spielberg! The pedigree of the team behind this game is just incredible with some amazing credits to their name. While there may not be a concrete release date for this game just yet, I thought it would be fun to take a look at what has gotten so many people excited about this.

A Magic Few

The alternative Victorian era setting of Nightingale is something that is very appealing to me. In this world there is magic, but magic is only known and used by a special few. Magic was given to us by The Fae, a magical and mysterious faction and since then magic has built up around the city of Nightingale with people dedicating themselves to learning about it. People are also able to travel between Fae realms thanks to these portals, but something goes wrong and people are left trapped with no way back to Nightingale.

This Is Your Story!

The developers have said that getting back to Nightingale is the ultimate goal, but the game does not have a linear story for players to experience. Instead, the story will revolve around them and players will be creating their own paths and stories be it with friends, on their own, or just by interreacting with NPC’s that they come across. While I would love to see a fleshed-out story set in this interesting world, I do really like the sound of what they are going for with the story.

Monsters Inc!

I mentioned the Nightingale trailer we got at the Game Awards last year, but what really blew me away was the creative monster designs. There is this creepy pterodactyl looking creature with a messed-up face that I just loved! There are giants, dragon looking things, and many more interesting mythical beasts that you will be coming across as you hop between the different realms. As far as the places that these monsters call home, it looks like there is going to be a lot of variety to the areas we will be traveling in from forests to a place that had a kind of Old West look to it.

Crafting And Shooting

From what I understand, Nightingale is going to have you looking for supplies so that you can build things and that trailer does show some kind of settlement being built. Not a lot has been said about the actual crafting aspect of the game yet, but the little bit we have seen does seem pretty awesome. I really like the look of the first-person shooter combat that the game has, the gunplay looks like it is going to be very satisfying, and blasting monsters and anything else that gets in your way looks like it is going to be very satisfying. I am very interesting to see how taking on some of the larger monsters and creatures in the game goes, especially if you are trying to play it on your own.

mark value="8" comment="Even though we do not know a ton about Nightingale just yet, I have a feeling that this could end up being one of the biggest games of 2022. I love the whole setting and lore that has been crafted around this game and cannot wait to get stuck into it At the moment the game is only planned for PC which is a bit of a shame as I would have loved to have seen this on the PlayStation 5."]

Pros:

  • The setting for this game is incredible
  • The monster designs in the game are incredible
  • You can play on your own or form some kind of group with your friends
  • I like the look of the gunplay in the game

Cons:

  • At the moment there is no official release date
  • Console players are looking like they are going to miss out on this one
