Maggot Baits

Brought to us by the same people that gave us Euphoria, Maggot Baits is a dark, twisted, and very, very violent visual novel game that is 100, no 130 percent not for those who are squeamish or easily shocked. This is a game that managed to stick with me for a few days after I played it as the story was such a memorable and shocking experience.

So Dark, So Gritty, So Messed Up

The story that this game tells is brutal with a capital B. I do not mean brutal as in bad, but brutal in the content as this story does not hold back. The story is set in Japan, the city of Katou and these beings that are referred to as Witches started to show up, before long the city falls and it is quarantined by the government.

Katou then becomes home to the worst of the worst, not just witches, but all kinds of other scum. The Witches are hunted and tortured for pleasure and an ex-cop called Shougo is trying to help a group of witches put a stop to it. Let me tell you, Maggot Baits is a story that does not really have any good guys. The story is dark and disturbing, but it is well written and will have you wanting to see it through to the very end.

Looking Through Your Fingers

I have to say that this is a great looking game. It has a dark cyberpunk thing going on with the visuals and in that regard, Maggot Baits more than stands on its own. This is a game that can be very, very hard to look at. The sexual torture and just flat-out torture, in general, is shown in very graphic detail. Hey, I can appreciate the work here as a horror fan, I like it, but for some, I can see this game being far too much.

The number of hentai in this game is just staggering, I would say that there is actually too much. The people behind the game are clearly proud of the way this game looks (for good reason as it looks great) however, sometimes a hentai scene can pop up in the middle of a story section that has nothing to do with anything that is going on. The game is so brutal that you will want to turn away, but the artistic talent is so good, you simply cannot.

Plowing Through

I feel that some people will play Maggot Baits and be turned off pretty quickly by the visuals and themes of the game. Those that are able to stomach it, I have no doubt will want to see this story all the way through until the very end.

This is a visual novel where you have different endings that you can access. So, you do have a bit of choice in how you react to things and that is pretty cool.
