Living in Kanazawa

As soon as I read the synopsis of what Living in Kanazawa was all about, I knew that it was a game I had to try out. I love a good lewd visual novel and his one had a slice of life thing going on that intrigued me a great deal and made me think that this could be a perfect fit for me. Now, to be fair, I think that this game does deliver what I expected from it, however, a good friend of mine, a fellow lewd game lover did not get into this at all and his reasons were quite valid to be fair.

The Land Of The Rising Sun

In Living in Kanazawa, we play as a student who is given the chance to move to Japan and study there. I love the idea of this for the main story and we of course will get to meet many attractive ladies while we are there. This is very much a slice of life style of game where we are living the life of this dude the way that we want and there are many different ways that the story can go, heck you do not even have to stay a dude if you do not want!

It Is People That Make The World Work!

The funny thing about Living in Kanazawa is that the stuff I liked about the game was the stuff that drove my buddy nuts. This is a game that is all about making relationships with other characters. I liked that, as I said, it is a slice of life style game that has you do mundane things, all the while getting to know these people. Now, some of this is a bit on the lengthy side with some conversations lasting a bit longer than they need to. However, I liked it, it made me feel like I was actually playing as a character.

Life Is A Highway

Living in Kanazawa is a lewd visual novel that is very choice driven. I ended up playing the game, trying to be a nice guy actually looking for love, but that is just the tip of the iceberg! If anything, you could argue that the game is far too ambitious for its own good as one choice can lead you down a completely different path. I can see why for some (like my friend) that would be frustrating if you are trying to steer the story in a particular direction. However, I liked it, it made it feel a bit more real as just one choice or chance meeting could alter your life significantly.

I Am Sure I Have Seen Her Before!

The presentation of Living in Kanazawa is very interesting and I like the gameplay, I feel it will be something you either really like or do not care for at all. The game uses what I am sure are actual porn stars for the characters and they have this kind of filer over them. There was a game recently released on Xbox Series called As Dusk Falls and that is what the look of the game reminded me of. One thing that is a drag with the presentation is that the sex scenes (which can take a while to get to) are just still images, there is no animation here.

I know that Living in Kanazawa is not a perfect lewd visual novel, but I did enjoy my time with it. The way the game is written does mean it is a pretty big time sink if you want to get really invested in the story and characters. However, my best advice is that you give it around 20 to 30 minutes, if it has not grabbed you by then I do not think it will. It certainly has some good ideas and I think the way they did the visuals is neat. I just think with a bit more polish this could have been great instead of just good.

Pros:

  • I liked the Japanese student setting
  • There are many different characters to interact with
  • I liked how they used real people for the graphics
  • If you like slice of life lewd visual novels, you may like this

Cons:

  • It may sound crazy, but there are perhaps too many choices and paths
  • I wish that there was animation in the game
