LittleBigPlanet Karting

LittleBigPlanet Karting is the kind of game that on paper we can all agree sounds like a ton of fun. However, it ended up being way more fun and a deeper kart racing experience than any of us thought that it could be. This is a fun game and I am hand on heart surprised that this did not become a major franchise for Sony. I am not saying that this could have ever matched the kind of sales or hype that Mario Kart does, but it could have still been a successful exclusive title for PlayStation.

Hoarding It All

One of the most surprising things about LittleBigPlanet Karting is that it actually has a story mode to play through. This game takes place right after the events of LittleBigPlanet 2, We have that hoarding meaning from the first game here and they are back again! The story is basically about Sackboy and friends trying to get all of the different items and pieces that have been taken to be “hoarded” away. It is fun stuff and has that LittleBigPlanet personality by the truckload.

Welcome To Mar… I Mean Sackboy Kart!

The actual racing action of LittleBigPlanet Karting is very fun. Look, this is very close to what Mario Kart offers and I mean that as a good thing. The karts feel great to drive and you can shoot items, forwards and backward as well as give other racers a good slap if they get too close. The drifting is easy to get to grips with and right from the first race, it all feels very intuitive and is the kind of game that can be fun to play no matter if you are 5 or 55.

More Than Just A Finishing Line

One way that LittleBigPlanet Karting changes the kart racing formula we see in the Mario Kart series up is with the way it handles races. Do not get me wrong there are plenty of your standard, finish in first place kind of races in this game. However, there are also many other styles of races that you will be participating in as you progress through the game. Reaching a waypoint, getting a high score, finding an item, and even straight up battles. It adds a lot of variety to the game and it also ensures that you have lots of game modes for the multiplayer mode as well.

Getting Creative

Of course, you could not have a game like LittleBigPlanet Karting without a creative aspect to it, could you? Creating levels is the name of the game in LittleBigPlanet, but here it is all about creating and sharing your own tracks. This is such a great idea and at the time and the years that followed the games release, it was like you had a never-ending amount of tracks to check out. You do not just create the layout of the track, but you also get to come up with the rules for each track you create too. You can even customize your karts and your Sack Boy as well. If you enjoyed the creative aspect of the main games, you will love this.

Pros:

• I love the whole LittleBigPlanet style that the game has
• The actual kart racing feels fantastic
• You can make your own tracks
• I liked how much variety there is to the racing

Cons:

• The servers to share your tracks are no longer active
• It is a real shame that Sony did not make this a franchise for PlayStation
