While they were not perfect, the first two games were interesting enough that Little Nightmares III was most certainly a game I was very interested in. Ok, so you may call me captain obvious for saying this, but if you enjoyed the previous games, you will certainly appreciate the twisted tale that awaits you here. You could argue that it is more of the same, but for me, this game really came to life when I was playing it with a buddy of mine.
The New, New Nightmare
One thing that I was surprised by with Little Nightmares III was that this is not a sequel to Little Nightmares 2. This, from what I understand, is a prequel, but I would be lying if I said that I fully understood that this was a prequel before…. Or even while I was playing it, it was not until I finished the game and then did a little reading on it that I realized it. Our main character this time is a little kid in a raven mask called Low, and he has a little doll like friend, a girl called Alone, and they are stuck in this nightmare world, full of evil and strange creatures that want to either just kill them or eat them!
Two Heads Are Better Than One
Gameplay wise, Little Nightmares III is a very similar kind of experience to the previous two games. Little Nightmares II introduced a second playable character that changed the combat and the puzzles. This game takes things a little further. On the surface, the main difference is that Low is able to use a bow and arrow, and Alone has a wrench, both of which are required for different combat situations and, of course, puzzles. There are also platforming sections in the game as well. Playing with a friend is where the game really shines, as there are a lot more sections that require teamwork in the game. I think it is safe to say, if you had fun with Little Nightmares and the sequel, it is more than likely you will enjoy this too.
The Hardest Battle Of All
One of the common things that you would read about Little Nightmares II was that the hardest part of the game was the controls. There was just something a little, for lack of a better term, jank about the controls. I would not say that they were bad, but there were certainly a few too many sections where the controls were a bit on the finicky side, which led to more than a few frustrating deaths as I progressed through the game. The second game did not really fix those issues, and if I am being honest, I think the same rings true here. There are still some control issues where you, on occasion, do feel like the controls are fighting you.
More Nightmare Fuel
One thing that all three games have is a fantastic visual style, and I would make the argument that Little Nightmares III is the most disturbing game yet. There are some really freaky monster designs in this game. My personal favorite is The Supervisor, a bug-looking security lady who you have to squish! The levels look fantastic. There is a carnival-type area that is my favorite of the entire franchise. The game has that same creepy vibe that people loved about the other two. I think that the creepy and imaginative style of the game is what will drive most people through to see the end. Oh, the music and sound design in the game is also great, really does help add to the unsettling and creepy atmosphere.
While I do think that Little Nightmares III is better than the first game, I do prefer Little Nightmares II over this. I think the more two character-based puzzle gameplay is great when you are playing with a friend, and it makes the game a very memorable experience. However, when playing on your own, it can sometimes lead to a few frustrating moments. As I have said before. If you enjoyed the other two games, you will like this. If you found those other games more on the annoying side when it came to their gameplay, this is probably going to be a similar experience for you.
Pros:
- I loved the creepy and unsettling vibe of the game
- The fact that this is a prequel is pretty cool
- The two new characters looked awesome
- The game is perfect to play with a friend
Cons:
- It does have many of the frustrating elements of the other games
- I wish it gave us more information about the story

Little Nightmares III - atmospheric platformer with elements of horror will send you to Nowhere. The main character is in a strange space, unfriendly and gloomy. To get out of such a dangerous and uncomfortable place you just need to... go? In fact, it is unknown how to get out of the otherworldly space, but all you have to do is to go forward, relying only on a silent companion and your intuition. Successfully overcome obstacles, help each other in danger and find the end of the strange world.
