Lego Battles brings the joy of playing with your mini figures into the digital era. This friendly looking game that mimics the clunky brick-shaped joy of the real thing in all its colorful glory lets you take your lego figures into real battles. Most of this is done through a top down view that has you looking at tiny characters. These figures are so small and simplistic they may leave you guessing as to whether they’re actually legos or not, but the upper portion of the screen helps provide that detail.
70 levels to play
This game offers a fairly generous amount of gameplay, with 70 levels of colorful characters and LEGO inspired charm to keep you fighting. Gameplay unfortunately is very simple, so if you were hoping for a challenge, you may find this game a disappointment.
It’s very evident that this game was designed for children, likely under the age of 10. This makes sense since LEGO’s are meant to be a children’s toy, but adults often love and use LEGOS too. It would be wonderful if a future game had options to challenge adults.
AI is not well developed
A minor flaw to the game is that the AI is not as well developed as it could be and needs babysat to keep it on track. Otherwise, you may think your villagers are out gathering resources when in reality they’ve stopped because they have forgotten what they are supposed to do. Characters sent on long journeys can also end up failing because they get stuck along the way. Even if you’re using AI to direct these various characters, you’ll still need to check in regularly to make sure that they are doing what you told them to do.
Multiplayer Action
One of the best features of this game is the multiplayer function. Multiplayer allows you to play the game against other opponents. If you’re an adult, that means pitting your wits against another player who is every bit as smart as you are. This really opens up gameplay options for adults and is also a fun way to interact with your kids through the game. Lots of Unlockable Content
The game also has tons of unlockable content. This comes in the form of the ‘sets’ you can use to go to battle with. There are 25 sets in all, and 20 of those need to be unlocked through game progression. This is a small but satisfying part of the game.
If you’ve ever played Lego World, you’ll be familiar with the setup. Although this game is about the battles and not exploration, the games are very similar.
This is a great game overall, especially if you are a fan of the LEGO universe. The game has a little of everything, ranging from strategy to the creative joy of playing with new LEGO sets. If you’ve been looking for a great game for your kids that offers the elements of strategy, this is an excellent starter game.
