Legends of Kingdom Rush

Legends of Kingdom Rush is a turn-based RPG combat game with some serious battles that require you to think harder than school ever did. Time to embark on an astounding journey through a pretty generic medieval fantasy game that employs some unique roguelike elements. You take control of an adventuring party and battle your way across the land and take on an extraplanar entity that wishes to ruin the world. You are obviously the only group that can stop it so you’d better get to work. If that sounds like your kind of game, keep reading as we dive further into it.

Gameplay

So, the gameplay to Legends of Kingdom Rush is as described; turn based tactical roleplaying game. Think of the combat from Fire Emblem: Three Houses or Age of Wonders: Planetfall, and you’ll have a pretty good idea of what this game has in store for you. The story is pretty standard, something you could find in any fantasy game, but the gameplay is really where this title shines.

An incredibly in-depth battle system, you will find that it is extremely hard at times. I was blown away with how much learning I had to do to become proficient. You need to properly observe the battlefield along with the ally and enemy units within it. You can’t just run into it with swords blazing and start swinging. You need to think about this, take your time, and likely fail several times before you get it right.

I was really impressed by the diversity and intricacy of the combat. If you love turn-based tactical games, this is one that will surprise you with its detail.

Visuals

The visuals of Legends of Kingdom Rush are definitely simpler than some other games. I found this to be quite enjoyable none the less, as the delightful bright color palette and character designs are very friendly to all ages and do not waste your attention on unnecessary detail. The environments that you battle on are all simple enough but do look different from each other, allowing there to be a nice variety to backdrops.

All story scenes are played through comic panels that pop up on screen, giving this cartoonish game even more charm. There is a lot to love about this game, and you don’t have to look all that deep to find it.

Music

The music to this title is quite nice actually. You would think that you wouldn’t hear it much or maybe tune it out, but I found that it was very fitting of the mood and themes, while making sure that it wasn’t overbearing. There is a lot to like about the different songs that come on depending on where you are battling, which adds a great depth to its audio.
