Kubifaktorium

If you’re looking for a game to sink all your time and resources into, there aren’t many options that are better than Kubifaktorium. This wondrous title is one that involves players building a prosperous, industrious colony from the ground up with only a few of highly driven settlers and lofty aspirations. As the head of your colony, you’ll get to send out your colonists to harvest resources, produce crops, create structures, and make valuable products.

As your colony expands, you may begin to automate increasingly difficult activities using equipment, construct sophisticated networks of conveyer belts, and investigate a variety of transportation techniques to swiftly deliver raw resources where they are most needed. Kubifaktorium also supports mods and is fully integrated with the Steam Workshop.

Resource management to the max

As a player, you've been entrusted with building, managing, and growing a colony, similar to the way it is done in Rimworld and Oxygen Is Not Included; once established, you'll need to find new areas and, eventually, develop legendary weaponry to battle your foes. There are presently two working biomes, but the game will have many more, and the main goal is to utilize the resources of each by building machinery and industrial chains to get whatever you need.

Gameplay

The gameplay is fantastic and it seems quite solid, and you get the impression that this is the work of an experienced programmer. You must construct up manufacturing lines that will collect materials, transform them into other valuable goods, and finally store everything as efficiently as possible. Actually, I guess you may be inefficient, but I'm not sure why any player would choose that strategy.

Managing Colonies

By choosing them, you may assign roles to each colonist and get a breakdown of their talents. This will give you the most accurate notion of where to utilize each one. You may use bonfires to mark regions where your colonists are and are not permitted to move. This allows you to split duties in a very genuine way, and it is quite simple to become engrossed in the detail of each manufacturing line.

The talents of the colonists will evolve over time dependent on the responsibilities that are allocated to them. They may be miners, farmers, members of a production team, or even weapon makers, but suffice it to say that the more they do the same task, the better they will grow at it.

Verdict

Using the colonists in the most efficient way is key as they have a limited amount of work power. Crafting the right machines and automating as much of each process as possible is also very rewarding. As with all games of this type having resources where you need them is often the biggest challenge and in Kubifaktorium there are a lot of ways of moving goods. Trains, Zeppelins to the more traditional carts or even conveyer belts all keep things moving nicely but I seem to be unable to avoid bottlenecks.

7.5

Kubifaktorium is a title that manages to provide an in-depth gameplay experience for players that are familiar with the colony management genre of games. However, it might be a bit more difficult to sell this sort of idea to players who may be inexperienced with this sort of title.

Pros

  • Intellectually challenging gameplay
  • Great 3D Voxel Graphics
  • Mod Support

Cons

  • A few bugs here and there
  • Occasionally tedious
