Kingshunt

Despite a friend of mine insisting on calling Kingshunt, king shunt, this is a game that I think is doing a great deal of things right. This game needs more people’s eyes on it as it looks like it could be one of the most fun multiplayer games released this year. As I write this, the game is still moving along nicely in development which is especially impressive considering it is being made by just a very small team.

Good vs Evil, Alive vs Dead!

The whole premise of Kingshunt is really cool. It is basically the forces of light versus the forces of dark, the living vs the dead, and just a good old-fashioned battle between good vs evil.

The Forces of Light are the defenders of the game and they are trying to fight back the invading forces of The Forces of the Undead who are the evil that basically wants everything to die before them. I am not sure how story driven the whole thing is going to be in the end, but it is an interesting premise, to say the least.

Two Distinct Styles

What really dream me to Kingshunt was how it described itself as part 3rd person action game and part tower defense game. There is a selection of heroes that you can play as with and each one has their own abilities which can be expanded on and improved as you progress through the game. The combat looks like a lot of fun and it has a real slow and deliberate pace about it all which will reward skill more than anything else.

Attackers and Defenders

You have two very different ways to play in the game. The attackers which are the forces of the undead can have a bunch of minions assisting them to fight alongside them and they need to destroy the guardian at the end of the round. The defenders on the other hand are where the more tower defense style gameplay comes into the game. Here you have to build a strong defense, protect your defenses and protect the guardian. It is very interesting how different each side of the war plays.

Five Bad Boys With The Power To Rock You

That is perhaps the most obscure musical reference you will ever read, but it is very fitting for Kingshunt. The reason I say that is the game is based around 5 vs 5 PvP matches. So far, we know that there are two main game modes, Guardian Assault is the one I touched on before where you either have to defeat or protect the guardian at the end of the round. There is also a more straightforward mode which they are referring to as asymmetric 5 vs 5 PvP.

Pros:

• The whole premise of the game is very cool
• I love the gothic style that the game has
• It is a very strategic kind of action game
• I love how different the two sides are

Cons:

• I am not sure if the story is going to be as deep as I would like
• I do worry if it will find an audience
