Have you ever wanted to dig for buried treasure? In iDigging, you will be breaking out your shovels and heading out to your backyard to look for everything from furniture to jewels. There’s just one minor catch. It’s forbidden to dig! Buried treasure was discovered in the area long ago, and the greedy state wants it all for themselves.

In order to furnish the house, increase wealth, and find treasure you’ll have to dig without getting caught.

A Well-Developed Story

Despite being a modestly priced game, iDigging has a surprisingly well developed story behind it. The character is poor, with no job and nothing to show for his life. His wife left him for the neighbor, because the neighbor has a job and wealth. His only hope is to sneak into the backyard and dig, but the neighbor doesn’t like him and is very nosy. To keep prying eyes off the dig site, your character will have to be sneaky about digging. This means improving tools, disguising the dig site, and paying attention to when that nosy neighbor is around.

The goal of the game is to improve your life, which has hit rock bottom, through digging. As you collect more items to improve your home, your life gets better. This is a simple enough goal at its core, but it does add a little zest to the game.

Large Underground World

The underground world you dig into is huge. It’s not just the space under your yard, but also an underground cave system with additional quests to win more prizes. The yard itself has different layers of soil to explore, all of which have things to improve your home. The graphics and idea behind the game are very similar to A Game About Digging a Hole, but with added tension due to the neighbor.

Co-Op

On top of having a vast area to dig, you also have the option to do it with friends. The game allows up to 5 players in the game. Co-op always adds a fun edge to a game, since it’s more fun to play with others than to play alone. Although it can support up to five players, if you like to play solo, the game works just fine for solo play.

Colorful Graphics

The 3D graphics in the game are brightly colored, whimsical, and have their own unique style. Although the characters aren’t very refined, they fit in with the look and feel of the rest of the game.

This game is a wonderful ride for the price. Although it’s short at about an hour and a half of gameplay, it’s appropriately priced for the game and fairly well made for an early release. Some people do report bugs such as the tutorial playing too fast or the game crashing, but once again this is to be expected for early release. The bottom line, at around $2 you are risking almost nothing to play this game. Why not give it a go?

Pros:

  • Huge underground world
  • Co-op available up to 5 players

Cons:

  • Some bugs
