Horror Hunt

If you ask me, which you didn’t, but I am going to tell you anyway, Horror Hunt is something of a hidden gem. This game just never caught on the way that I feel it should have and I will admit, me and my buddies played the hell out of this game for about a month straight, but we then got distracted by something new and shiny and we never went back to it. However, I came across a random video where a guy was talking about it and it inspired me to get me and my friends to play it and we had a blast with it.

The Inspiration

Let’s talk about what Horror Hunt is. No doubt, you have heard of the game mode Prop Hunt 2.0, for me, this is one of the most fun Call of Duty game modes when it is included, Call of Duty: Black Ops III (I think it was III) was my favorite. Anyway, the idea of that mode is that one player/team plays as the “props” and they need to hide in the level as a chair, table, or whatever and then it is up to the other team to hunt them down. That is the premise here, but it is flipped on its head as it is the props that are the ones who are doing the hunting. The hunted need to find four keys to escape the map and the props need to kill them before they do.

In Horror Hunt if you play as a prop, you get to hide as anything from the environment and then you need to stalk the hunted and kill them. You can throw a weapon while in prop form, but you will have to transform and get up close and personal to cause some real damage. You can also drop these traps which offer some awesome jump scares that can put the hunted off balance so you can get in and get a few hits. If you get caught once you reveal yourself, you do have the ability to try and stealth away. Playing as the props is fun, when I play this with my friends, I like to be silent on the mic as I stalk them as it makes it for fun and adds some tension.

Saving Yourself As The Hunted!

The hunted are not just sitting ducks and they are just as much fun to play as in Horror Hunt! They have weapons to blow away the props with, but they also have glow sticks and lights, and traps. I loved using the traps as I would put them behind me and slowly walk away, trying to entice a prop to come and get me from the back. When you first start playing the game, I do feel that the props are more fun. However, as me and my friends get more and more into the game, I actually liked playing as the hunted more as it just felt more tense, especially when one of those goddamn prop traps goes off!

Kicking It Up A Notch

They did add more content to the game after launch, but Horror Hunt is a game that I think needed more content. It launched with four maps and one of these maps is just way too large, especially if you only have small teams fighting out. This is a game that simply does not have enough to keep you playing for the long haul, me and my friends played this for a couple of nights, but after that, we kind of felt that we had seen all the game had to offer and once again we decided that we had enough. It is a real shame too as when you are having fun with this, it truly is a great deal of fun.

Pros:

• Playing as the props is hilarious
• The hunted have some neat tools to defend themselves
• This is a blast for a multiplayer game night
• It is a fun twist on the Prop Hunt concept

Cons:

• This game needs more content
• It is fun, but you will have your fill quite quickly
