Hellsweeper VR is an exciting new roguelike that brings a whole new meaning to the word ‘chaotic.’ This extreme game has a no-holds-barred approach to combat and a virtually unlimited movement system. Players can bounce off walls, summersault through the air, and fire their guns all at the same time. Players may need this mobility to get through the game. While it does offer comfort mechanics to ease motion sickness from the extreme maneuverability, these are optional.

18 Maps

The game offers a stunning 18 maps to play on, along with a variety of weapons and 10 different enemy types. Together this is a combination that will help players never get bored. New players be advised—the game does not babysit you. Enemies rush at you from the very beginning, and do not give you time to think over how you want to play.

Intense violence and gore

This game doesn’t hold things back in terms of violence either. Decapitating mobs sends their heads flying, and there is plenty of blood and gore for those who like that level of excitement. The game developers themselves don’t appear to want anyone under the age of 18 playing the game, so keep this in mind when ordering it as a gift.

The developers of Hellsweeper VR have a track record for making great VR experiences. Their previous game, Sairento VR, has over 1,400 reviews on Steam with an overall rating of “very positive.” Many of the people pumped for Hellsweeper VR are excited because Sairento was so good.

The good news is that while Hellsweeper is centered in—well—hell, and Sairento is a cyber ninja game, the movement and combat are similar. People who loved Sairento VR can look forward to Hellsweeper VR knowing it’s going to be another great experience.

Roguelike

This game is a roguelike. If you are not a fan of all that comes with playing a roguelike, such as permadeath, Hellsweeper VR probably won’t be an enjoyable game for you. This game also thrusts you right into the thick of things with little in the way of guidance or tutorial.

It’s a hardcore game meant for hardcore players, and more casual players may find it stressful to play. If you’re not sure, a demo is available to test the waters before committing to this game.

This game has a lot of promise to it. VR is a relatively new field, and many games babysit players as if they’ve never played in VR before. This game won’t do that. If you just want to experience a VR game with all its possibilities, this is a great start.

There’s also some amazing movement that allows you to play like you’re the star in a movie. On the other hand, the fact that this game throws you right in can be a downside too. If you’re not a skilled player or experienced with VR already, you may want to try an easier game before getting into games like Hellsweeper VR.
