GrimGrimoire OnceMore

There was a time when the Real Time Strategy games were in vogue; everyone talked about them as they usually are hard or complicated games to understand but, as soon as you do, you’ll have plenty of fun time ahead of you. At this time, every developer tried to have their own RTS in the market; some of those were successful, and others fell behind. But for sure, one of those successful games is GrimGrimoire OnceMore.

GrimGrimoire OnceMore is an RTS game but with a little twist, as it has wizards, witches, and a lot of sorcery. Also, it has a very interesting plot. It can turn weird at first sight, as it’s a plot aimed more at the Japanese public, but if you like these kinds of things, you’ll enjoy it as well.

The Story

The game follows the story of Lillet Blan, an in-training witch that studies in the Silver Star Tower, a witch school for gifted kids who are in touch with magic. This school has everything you can ask for in a magical school; eccentric professors, kids doing some magic tricks in the hallways, you name it. Lillet will spend five days in the school, learning all the basics of the magic spells when, on the last night, the Archmage Calvarous, the first owner of the Silver Star Tower, gets free of its prison, and attacks the place, taking everyone down except for Lillet.

Lillet runs away and gets safe, and then, the bells sound, indicating the arrival of a new day. Lillet wakes up in her room as if it was a nightmare, but it wasn’t, as Lillet remembers everything. Lillet will relive the first five days of her stay at the school over and over again, trying to avoid Calvarous from getting free and destroying everything on its path.

A Magical Age of Empires

GrimGrimoire OnceMore is a real-time strategy that, as the developers said, draws some inspiration from StarCraft. In RTS or Real-Time Strategy games, the objective is to have a base, create units to battle, and conquer the enemy’s base. Take Age of Empires or the same Starcraft as an example. Well, In GrimGrimoire OnceMore, you’ll have to create a base, train your minions, and send them to battle for you.

Really, it’s a bit more complex than that, as you have different mechanics that will help you out. First of all, you’ll get access to four different schools of magic, which are Alchemy, Glamour, Necromancy, and Sorcery. All of these schools have their own Grimoires, which will be your warriors. These Grimoires have their own upgrades, as always.

Each class resists damage from another class and it’s weak against another class, forcing you to master each class to win. It’s a pretty balanced mechanic that it’s pretty good to have, as it makes the game interesting and not a race to see who gets the best class first.

To make all of this work, as on any RTS, you’ll have to use resources. In this case, the main and only resource you’ll use is the Mana, which is scattered throughout the whole map, and you have to battle for it and then collect it.

This one is a pretty good and fun game but only if you are into the RTS. Otherwise, it’ll be somewhat hard to understand and sometimes will get overwhelming.
