Gachaverse

Gachaverse is the answer for players who’ve always wanted to create their own custom anime characters. For some players, character creation is the most important aspect of a videogame, and this game goes straight to the point with that, simply skipping the “game” part and delivering a feature-rich character.

However, many of the customization features here can be somewhat shallow, somewhat limiting player’s imaginations. When a game that’s only a character creator doesn’t deliver a solid customization experience, what else is there left to talk about? Let’s see just what the Gachaverse experience is like.

An Anime World

First things first, Gachaverse is a love letter to all things anime. All the characters in the game are pretty much reference to other popular anime franchises, while the overall aesthetic is usually a “moe” style similar to Hyperdimension Neptunia. If anime is not your thing, there’s definitely not much for you here.

The main event here is the character creator. Sure, you can customize your character’s body and facial features, but these customization sliders are pretty basic. Don’t expect in-depth customization like The Sims 4 here: it’s mostly just the basics so you can get to the next part of the process – the dress-up game. Mix and matching different clothing sets is one of the most attractive aspects of Gachaverse’s gameplay. That said, the selection of clothes remains a bit lacking, even if the constant updates are mitigating that situation.

Test your luck

Gacha games have earned a somewhat mixed response from fans. The idea of spending real-life money so you can virtually gamble to get something you want is definitely a tough sell for some, and a name like “Gachaverse” can make some players turn around instinctively. Luckily for those players, the “gacha” elements in this game are purely cosmetic. Gachaverse has a Gacha Simulator mode where players can get special characters for free, without the need to spend diamonds, gems, or any other kind of random mobile game currency. Every character you unlock through the Gacha Simulator features great art, and there’s a lot of incentive to collect all the Gachaverse characters. Who knows, maybe the next time you’re looking into spending some bucks playing Genshin Impact, you could consider playing Gachaverse for free.

Online Anime Community

Another great thing about Gachaverse is that the game features an online hub where players can meet and chat. The fact that you can also use one of your Gachaverse characters as an avatar for this mode is a cool little bonus. Additionally, players can share their Studio Mode creations. Using your custom characters, you can create scenes to share with your friends. Although they’re a bit basic, they can look cute enough, as long as you don’t mind the clunky UI.

Using the studio mode, players can also create so-called Skits: these short stories are made using your custom characters. While this might sound superfluous, it’s actually a nice addition to the core game, as it lacks some real gameplay mechanics as it is.
