FREEDOM WARS Remastered

FREEDOM WARS Remastered is one of the most anticipated remasters of 2025 and it is a game I could not be any more excited for! This is a fantastic 3rd person action RPG that has a great story, interesting characters, and a really cool premise. The original release around a decade ago was already a great game, but the enhancements that have been made here are going to make this the ultimate way to enjoy the game. I am trying to get as many people excited about this game as I can!

Where Have I Seen This Before?

Ignored by many, but loved by a few (to borrow a quote from The Cure) is the best way to describe FREEDOM WARS Remastered. This is a game that those who know about really do love. This was originally released on the PlayStation Vita back in 2014 and it is honestly one of the stand-out titles for the awesome and underrated system and in Japan it was actually one of the biggest sellers for the Vita. With it being on the Vita, it never got the sales that it deserved and now Dimps, Bandai-Namco, and Sony have the chance to make this game be loved by millions more with this remaster.

Talk About A Prison State

One of the things that I always thought was super freaking cool about the original and now FREEDOM WARS Remastered is the story. The game takes place in a brutal dystopian future where the natural resources of the world are pretty much all used up and pollution has ravaged the world. Humanity “survives” in these places called Panopticons which are prisons and if you are born into one of these places you are born a prisoner and you have two choices, live and die in the prison or you can fight the other Panopticons/prions to reduce your sentence and get resources.

A Thorn In Your Side

While the story and premise of FREEDOM WARS Remastered is cool, it is the gameplay that had me hooked back when I played the original. You have a weapon called a Thorn and you use this to zip you to enemies, pull them to you, and just cause tons of damage! You create your character and there are different classes and build options so you can truly make it so that your character feels special for you and perfect for the way you want to play. The combat is very fast paced and no matter if you are playing as a lone wolf or with friends, the combat is always going to have you on the edge of your seat. Think of stuff like Bayonetta and Vanquish and you will have an idea of what to expect here. Me and a couple of buddies are getting this on day one and I cannot wait to jump in and play this together.

Remastering A Masterpiece

So what is exactly new in FREEDOM WARS Remastered that was not in the original PlayStation Vita version? To start with, the game looks amazing, it always looked fantastic on that impressive Vita screen, but Dimps has covered the game in some 4K paint and it looks much clearer, the details are finer and it really does look awesome. The game also moves so much smoother (not that it was not smooth before) making that original PlayStation Vita version probably hard to go back to. The game has also seen the gameplay tightened up too which is awesome, this was already a joy to play so the new tighter controls will make it even better. They have also added in new difficulty options as well as refined the weapon crafting system in the game too.

Pros:

• This game tells such a cool and exciting story
• The gameplay is fast, frantic, and super satisfying
• You can get really hands-on with how your character looks and plays
• The improvements made for this remaster are very welcomed

Cons:

• I do wonder if this will sell well, I really hope that it does!
• From what I understand there is no actual “new content” included here
