Five Nights at Freddy's: Ultimate Custom Night (UCN) is a horror game that offers players a unique experience by allowing them to customize their own night terrors. The plot of Ultimate Custom Night unfolds in the context of Five Nights at Freddy's universe. The player is trapped in an endless loop where they must battle animatronics. This reflects the agonizing state of the protagonist who is facing the consequences of his actions in the past.

Players manage the office using various tools and systems to track and confront the animatronics. This includes controlling doors, ventilation, and lights. The game takes place in “night shifts” where each night lasts from 12:00am to 6:00am. The goal is to survive until the end of the shift by avoiding animatronics attacks. Many familiar characters from previous installments in the series return in UCN, which adds to the sense of nostalgia. The game contains hints of deeper themes such as guilt, punishment and redemption.
