FEROCIOUS

You put dinosaurs in a game, and I am checking it out, which is what brings us to FEROCIOUS today, and yes, you have to yell it as it is all in caps! This is a first-person shooter survival kind of game, and while it is not fully complete as I write this, you can check out the demo for free, and I highly recommend that you do. This is pretty awesome stuff, and there are honestly not as many games about dinosaurs like this as I feel that there should be! I have pretty much done everything that you can do in the demo, so I wanted to do a little enhanced preview of the game.

Dinosaurs Are Cool

We have to set the tone before we dive into this Jurassic nightmare, our character in FEROCIOUS finds themselves in! Growing up, I loved Jurassic Park and played the hell out of the Jurassic Park video games. I remember being blown away by that Jurassic Park: Trespasser game, which turned out to be awful, but it looked awesome. However, it was Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and Dino Crisis 2 (Dino Crisis 2 still being the greatest dinosaur game ever made in my opinion) that really took my love of dinosaurs in video games to a whole new level, and so far, this game is right on that level.

Where Am I?

As of me writing this, the story of FEROCIOUS is not exactly spelled out for us in what we have. However, what we do know is that we play the role of some kind of soldier, and we have woken up on a strange island that is full of dinosaurs. However, there are also other soldiers here who seem to want us dead, and there are also many mysteries as we wonder, who the heck built all these ancient ruins? It is making for a very intriguing plot, and honestly, it is a FPS with dinosaurs, so I am not expecting Shakespeare here, but I do think this has a very cool action/sci-fi vibe to the story, and that is certainly something I am all about.

Dino-Mite!

The whole style of FEROCIOUS is something that I am all about. This is a great-looking video game, and even in the early build I have been messing around with, there is a solid selection of dinosaurs that may or may not want to eat us for lunch. They all look cool, and I love how raw and real the whole world that we have to play in here feels. The wooden spikes that make up fences, the old structures, and then we have the modern tech that our soldiers have. It all makes for a very cool style, and in many ways, it is a bit like the Turok reboot they did several years ago. The dinosaurs themselves look fantastic, and they have a scaly and slimy look about them, which I thought was awesome, plus the way they are animated is very cool. At one point, a Raptor was above me, and I just caught its tail swinging out of the corner of my eye, and it freaked me out big time!

A Dino Control Device!

In the game, you need to move around the island, trying to survive, and this means managing your resources and scavenging for items. As well as the survival aspect of the game, FEROCIOUS also has some super fun gun play. The first-person shooter mechanics feel fantastic, and there are plenty of humans and dinosaurs for you to fight against. However, you can also take control of the dinosaurs with this handy little device, and that is just awesome. At the moment, I feel like I am going from point A to point B, but it feels great, and the game is doing a wonderful job of making me feel like I am actually in this world.

Pros:

• It is a game with dinosaurs in it, and that is cool
• The design of the dinosaurs is awesome
• I found myself very intrigued by this “ancient world” the game is set in
• The gunplay on offer here feels very satisfying, and you can control the dinos!

Cons:

• As of writing, no official release date is out there
• I do wonder if the story will be able to live up to what I am imagining!
