Do Not Open

As a lover of all things horror, you better believe that Do Not Open is a game that had me hyped when I saw the first trailer. I do have to tell you fine folks that there is a free demo out there for this that gives you a little taste of it. I do also have to say that the demo got me even more excited about this. Basically, what we have going on here is a first-person survival horror game, and that right there is always going to get me interested and I hope it does you too!

A Missing Family And A Strange House

In Do Not Open we play as a man called Mike Goreng. Mike is a scientist and he awakens one day in his house, only this is not “his house”. What I am talking about here is that he has awakened in a twisted version of his home and he finds that his wife and daughter are now missing. Not only that, he is being stalked by something evil in the house and he is against a short time limit to find out what is going on, and where his family is and doing all of this while trying to stay alive!

The Mystery Of The Manor

One thing that is very interesting about Do Not Open is the random nature of it. The story is going to unfold to you via things like notes, newspaper clippings, and so on. This is where you start to piece together the story of what exactly is going on here. I am not 100 percent sure here, but what I do think is that the story content you experience may change in the way it is presented when you play through the game. It sounds like each time you play the game, you will get a little bit more light shined on what exactly is going down here.

An Escape Room Of Terror

I have really enjoyed this escape room style genre that has exploded over the last few years and Do Not Open takes a lot of inspiration from those escape room style games. Each room you enter in this game has a new set of puzzles for you to solve and evil for you to survive from. It is cool stuff and the kind of thing where you have to try and take your time to solve the puzzles, but at the same time, you are against the clock and if you do not move fast, your family could be gone and you could be dead. It adds a real level of intensity to things that is cool.

You Never Know What Your Gonna Get

The random nature of Do Not Open is what I feel is going to ensure that this game calls you back to play through it again. Each time you start the game and enter a new room, the puzzles, items, and so on will be randomized so things will never exactly be the same. Now, to be honest, I am not exactly sure that this is going to be endless, but I do like the idea that there is going to be a random nature to the gameplay to make each playthrough that extra bit tense.

Pros:

• I love the haunting story being told here
• The evil in this house that chases you is very creepy
• The whole game actually has a really creepy vibe to it
• The random nature of things here gives it some major replay value

Cons:

• How soon will some things repeat on future playthroughs?
• Will some puzzles be a bit too cryptic?
