In the making for over five years by Crafting Legends, Death Trash made a huge impression in E3 Game Awards, and the Steam Next Fest, which ushered the free demo version of the game. Set to release August 5th, 2021 this open-world, action-adventure, RPG-shooter will see players exploring a grotesque, gruesome, and gory 2D pixelated world, exclusively on PC.
A Beautiful Blend
Death Trash takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where abhorrent cosmic creatures have developed a taste for humanity, unfortunately for them, humanity came equipped with an arsenal of weapons and a bad attitude.
A modern take on the old-school RPGs, with the creative freedom of gameplay this isometric, pixelated 2D game boasts one of the most unique art styles in recent memory. Exploring Death Trash’s world is an adventure itself, with level design and visuals pushing the boundaries of what games of the genre could be.
Mixing straightforward combat, stealth approaches, responsive story-building through dialogue, crafting goods, and other RPG mechanics, players will have vast options to navigate through the campaign. An undisclosed number of classes will be available, but it is known that melee and ranged combat, alongside the ability to customize your gameplay through different stats and abilities will be a core concept of the game.
Create or Annihilate
In Death Trash players find themselves on a planet called Nexus, a place where humankind has settled after start traveling. In this blood-soaked world, sci-fi, cyberpunk world permeated by ancient secrets, ruins, and hostile creatures, the once protective machines became corrupted and instilled terror upon humanity. The character you build will be one of the remaining human raiders in Nexus, unraveling the world’s mysteries, as you befriend or destroy larger-than-life creatures, and create your own journey.
A gnarly campaign that will give players complete freedom to traverse their trials in diplomatic, or violent ways. Death Trash will have a fully-fledged single-player campaign, however, it will allow for an offline co-op mode. From recent trailers, players can expect a title heavily focused on combat, but also a myriad of unique mechanics. For example, a cross-over between the classic WASD keys, and point-and-click movements, or the more eccentric puke mechanic - you read that right puking is not only a comedic relief but it will also play a part in the puzzle solving.
Conclusion
Death Trash is an R-rated indie title that promises a weird mixture of themes and genres. This horror-centric RPG builds upon philosophical inquiries while asking players to puke to solve problems. It is impressive that a team composed of only two developers has managed to create a distinctive indie title, and even more impressive is the fact that the hype behind this title only grew during its five years in development.
Receiving attention from game awards, and media outlets Death Trash seems like a perfect addition to anyone who has enjoyed Fallout, Death’s Door, and Disco Elysium.
