Atomic Society

Ever wanted to set up and build your own town in a post-apocalyptic setting. Atomic Society will let you do just that. This base-building game will put you in the role of a survivor who’s tasked with leading others like him to rebuild human society from its ashes. Naturally, since the game is set in a world where a disaster has all but eradicated humanity, you’ll encounter all sorts of wasteland challenges and nasties. This is why it’s important to lay down the law and settle on your morals so your settlers can have a compass to guide them.

Let’s take a closer look at the main features of Atomic Society.

Fallout Town Management

Far Road Games, the team behind this wasteland-based farm and build game have been heavily influenced by the much-beloved Fallout series. And you can tell just by looking at it.

The same post-nuclear disaster tones and radioactive areas are all present in Atomic Society. In order to ensure your own and other survivors’ wellbeing, you’ll have to build a stable and well-fortified settlement. It’s not easy, though, as resources are scarce and dealing with the dangers of the wasteland can be tricky.

Make The Rules

What sets Atomic Society apart from other base building games is the heavy emphasis on establishing laws and morals. Your wastelander group needs guidelines in order to better ensure a stable place for everyone to live in. But you don’t have to necessarily set good rules. You can run a society that punishes even the slightest misstep. You’re both judge and jury of your people so you decide how your laws are enforced and established. Use education to steer your people’s minds in the direction you want to or make things simpler by using violence and fear to have your way.

Be The Boss

Another feature that makes Atomic Society more unique is that you have your own leader character to control. In most other base builders you’re like an invisible hand that commands and instructs. Here, you’ll be able to walk within your settlement as well as out into the wasteland.

Controlling your own character in a game of this genre isn’t particularly new but in Atomic Society, your presence makes a big difference depending on the kind of society you build and the law system you use to run it.

Plenty of town management games have used a post-apocalyptic setting as their backdrop. None, however, have quite been able to capture the feel of steering the morals and principles of a society filled with lost and desperate survivors of a nuclear war. Atomic Society may look a bit rough around the edges but it definitely has the heart to produce the feel it aims for.

Pros

  • Control your own leader character and maintain a constant presence among your people.
  • Establish laws and morals to run your society anyway you want, either through fear or compassion and everything in between.
  • Manage a settlement in a post-apocalyptic setting reminiscent of the Fallout titles.

Cons

  • The art style feels somewhat rough and could have used a bit more polish.
  • The game is quite heavy with the menus and may put off newcomers to the genre.
