Aquamarine

When a friend asked me if I had heard of Aquamarine I embarrassingly said yes as I thought he was talking about a mid-2000s chick flick that my wife made me go and see when we were dating! Well, turns out that is not what he was talking about! This is a survival game that is quite unlike any other I have come across. A chilled experience and survival game do not usually go together, but that is what we have here, it also has a very unique kind of turn based gameplay system too that I do not think I have seen in a survival game before.

Finding Your Way Off This Watery Planet

Aquamarine is a sci-fi story and a story that I think is pretty awesome. We play as a space traveler who crashes on a strange and water covered alien planet due to some mysterious circumstances. She has a little pod that she can use to traverse the waters and she needs to try and find her spaceship so that she can make her way home. There is also a bit of mystery here too in regards to why you crashed on this planet and the actual planet itself.

Playing The Pages Of A Comic Book

What first blew me away about Aquamarine was the visuals. As I write this, we are barely into 2022, but this is already surely a prime contender for best looking game of the year! It has a hand drawn style to it (it apparently was inspired by French cartoonist Morbius which is cool) and it actually looks like you are playing a comic book. There is just so much style and personality here that I hope the game is a big hit and we get an actual comic book based on the game.

Straight Chillin!

The soundtrack that Aquamarine has is very, very fitting. Even though at its core this is a game that is about surviving on a rather harsh alien planet. The soundtrack has a very chill and calming kind of vibe to it. I have only experienced a little bit of it, but man I love this and could easily see myself playing this when I want to relax. Hey, I have an idea, how about if this game is successful enough someone like Limited Run Games can make a physical version that comes with a comic book and a soundtrack!

The Next Turn Could Be Your Last

When I heard that this game was going to be kind of turn based, I was not sure what to make of it. Basically, Aquamarine has you in your pod moving around the ocean, but you cannot just move around anyway you like… well you can, but there will be dire consequences. Each time you make a move, your energy depletes, it gets to zero and you end up back on the island you started. You really have to try and maximize your moves to get the best out of each run. I think this is such a fascinating idea for a survival game. Also, there is going to be some kind of point and click style puzzle aspect to the game too.

Using What You Can

As this is a survival game, Aquamarine has a lot of stuff for you to find. You can find items that you can use to upgrade your pod so it can survive longer and deal with anything that might want to cause you harm and so on. You can also upgrade the island that you are on too, which in turn can make your survival that little bit easier as time goes. On. Finding food so that you can eat is also a vital part of the game.

I really could not be any more excited for what this game is bringing to the table. So far, Aquamarine is listed as coming out 1st quarter of 2022 and I really do hope that it makes that date. Be sure to take a closer look at this one.

Pros:

• I love the sci-fi story
• The way the game is turn based is very interesting
• There is also going to be some kind of point and click adventure style of gameplay
• It is one of the most gorgeous looking games I have seen that is to be released this year

Cons:

• I wish they would give us an actual release date!
• I really, really wish that they would make an actual comic book based on this and release a soundtrack
