Ages of Conflict: World War Simulator

Ages of Conflict: World War Simulator is a game that plays exactly how it sounds. Players are given a choice between several different maps, including the option to make their own custom map, and place cities where you want them.

Each city represents the capital of a country. Once all the capital cities have been placed, it’s time to run the game. AI will have the countries start expanding outward from their cities, and spark wars where different countries touch.

Some Control

Although AI does much of the work for players, the game offers a “God Mode” that let’s you take more control over what happens. When players rename Capital Cities, there are three dots which open a menu with God-Mode controls in them.

Players can use this menu to force a country to make alliances, go to war, or make peace with another country. Although the game uses AI otherwise, it’s nice to know about these added controls when playing the game. The game plays like a simplified version of Worldbox. It’s better to think of it as a map simulator rather than an actual game.

Terrible Graphics

Although it works for the game, the graphics look like they were made in Microsoft Paint, and they don’t get much better when players make the maps themselves. If you need breathtaking graphics to stay engaged in a game, this is not the game for you.

Sandbox Style Play

Ages of Conflict: World War Simulator requires some imagination to enjoy. Players mostly sit back and watch how their different scenarios play out, with very little interaction. It’s fun if you can make up stories of what’s happening in your head, or if you’re writing a fantasy novel and want ideas for how warfare might play out. If you need more interacting with a game or get easily bored, this probably isn’t a great choice for you. In the end, there’s very few controls to the game and it’s mostly run by AI.

Fantastic Community

The reviews for Ages of Conflict: World War Simulator on Steam are overwhelmingly positive, and that’s in part thanks to the large community of people who love this game. Players can visit the community and share maps, discuss their favorite scenarios, and so much more. The community has truly brought this from a game that could have otherwise been borderline boring, and made it into something special.

This game is beloved by the community but isn’t for everyone. The game largely runs on its own, with players simply putting in the starting ideas and letting it run from there. It has a solid community to help the game become more enjoyable and is well-liked by streamers as well.

7

If you want a relaxing map-making game that lets you kick back and watch instead of have an active hand, this is a great game. If you want to be more interactive with your games, it’s probably better to find a game more suited to your needs.

Pros:

  • Sandbox Style Play
  • Relaxing to watch

Cons:

  • Not much to do

Game Reviews

Ages of Conflict: World War Simulator is a simulation of creating your own world and managing all available conflicts in it. Draw an arbitrary map and follow the development of relations between countries. Provoke conflicts between countries or force your enemies to sign peace treaties. If you are tired of managing a personally created mini-universe, then move on to a very real map of our world. Revive ancient empires and intervene in their conflicts to find out how the world would have changed.

Game Pros:

  • Literally create the boundaries of the world with your own hands
  • Create new history with your own hands in historical reconstruction mode
