X-Com's graphics may be only average, but its in-depth gameplay and terrific strategy will win you over. The difficulty may be a bit extreme, but you can keep going back to it. The range of missions and the diversity keep it fresh every time you play. While my cohorts may enjoy using the mouse, I like the controller better. X-Com is a must-buy. There is so much to do, you really get your money's worth. You can keep playing this one for months. Hard as hell, but great.
If you only could afford to buy one game for the PS over the next year, X-Com would be it. It has it all and then some! This PC port-over has the same look and feel as the original, especially when accompanied by the new PS mouse. The best way to describe the intense strategic level of X-COM is to compare it to playing five games of chess at once...blindfolded! Plan on setting a couple weekends aside when you fire up this extremely addictive title.
At first glance, you would think X-Com is just an average game due to the graphics, but that is incorrect. The game is like chess with a pulse. In-depth strategy and varying enemies with different attributes are what make this game worthwhile and fun to play. The interface is tedious and difficult to use with the PlayStation controller, but the PlayStation mouse makes it easier. Any person who likes strategy games will fall in love with this title.
Although this game is nothing more than the computer original converted into the PS format, it remains one of the best strategic games available for players looking to spend many nights in front of the tube. The graphics are superb and the cinemas added since the computer release really liven it up. Control with the keypad is a good adaptation, but the PS mouse is the preferred way to get around. X-COM is perfect for players with compulsive save and a lot of patience.

X-Com: Terror of the Deep is the latest computer port for the PlayStation. Under the rehashed guise of aliens destroying mankind, is a complex strategy game that will test players' minds instead of their reflexes.
The main focus of the game lies heavily on building up bases deep underwater. Players must use these to keep the enemy forces at bay. Combat takes place in phases with the humans and aliens each taking turns. Each side has its own abilities, and it's up to you, the player, to figure out ways to get around what your opponent is doing.
X-Com: Terror of the Deep will eventually send you on missions that span the world. At times the fight will take place on the surface. Sometimes you will discover alien technology after winning a battle. You must build up your forces in order to save mankind.
If strategy is your thing, X-Com: Terror of the Deep will give you the fight of your life.

You have to be a major sim-freak to like X-Com. It's an interesting and complex game about planet colonizing, but the extensive manuals and onedimensional music really bore you to alien tears after a while. Still, if you ever wanted to practice your own brand of illegal alien importing, this is a good game to start with.
It's the edge of the century and of the millennium, and, as if to punish mankind for thinking they were going to have a pleasant 1999, a mysterious alien race decides that it's time to invade and destroy. As commander of the forces of X-Com, it's your duty to build bases and deploy forces to deal with the alien menace before it overruns the planet.
X-COM UFO Defense was a huge hit for Microprose when it was released for the PC. It and its sequel, Terror From the Deer, blew away gamers with its cool combination of strategy and action and incredible depth of gameplay. The PlayStation version faithfully translates the feel of the PC game, but the question is, will PSX gamers respond to something as cerebral as this?
I hope so. While X-COM is pretty mind-bending (the badly-written instruction manual doesn't help) its still really fun. At the beginning of the game, you must pick a spot for your first base and await the UFO onslaught. As the game progresses, the action gets fast and furious. Many of your decisions are made while looking at a huge world map, but when you engage the enemy on the ground, the graphics really kick in as you battle aliens at close quarters in turn-based gameplay reminiscent of Warhammer 40K.
Novice gamers and those with short attention spans should probably avoid X-COM because it'll give them a headache, but for those of you with an appreciation for sci-fi epics, it's the logical choice.
