Totemic

For me, Totemic is one of the most interesting looking indie games to be released in 2021. It is getting harder and harder for indie games to stand out, but I think that this game has more than enough tricks up its sleeve and style that will hopefully allow it to stand out from the crowd. It is an old school action and adventure RPG that looks like it is going to be a great deal of fun when it is fully released.

With An Axe My Dear

As you can tell from the screenshots, Totemic is a game that is set in a fantasy world and a pretty damn good looking one. The character we play as is a tough girl called Mara and she is the owner of a magical axe that can take powers from those that it slays. There is not exactly a great deal out there in regards to the plot about the game just yet, but they have promised that there is going to be a lot of lore and world building here and from what little I have seen, it looks very promising.

Totemic is a top down 16-bit retro looking game and it truly does look fantastic. I honestly could not be more impressed and I have played a ton of games that have a retro style like this one does. You get some Link to the Past vibes from this and that is a very good thing. What I think sets this game apart from the rest is the use of color. It is kind of hard to explain, but it has a color pallet similar to classic Cartoon Network shows like Adventure Time, Regular Show, and Clarence. Shows where bright colors are used and things are well detailed. It just looks spectacular and the animation is first rate too so in motion it looks good too.

Puzzles With Blood

Ok, so we have to be honest here and say that what they have shown so far is not exactly a great deal. However, we do know that there is going to be some fast-paced combat in the game. You can get plenty of new abilities and magic spells that you can use so it does look like in this early state even, that there is going to be a lot of variety to the combat and it is going to be lots of fun. There are even some cool looking boss battles with these cool looking beasts.

As well as combat, you also have exploration and various puzzles that you have to solve as well. For me, as well as having a somewhat similar style, I also think the gameplay resembles a Link to the Past as well and that is a very positive thing!

Pros:

• I love the retro style that the visuals have
• The graphics are nice and bright
• A magical axe that can take an enemy’s powers is very cool!
• There looks to be a good mixture of puzzles and combat

Cons:

• They have been very light in regards to details of the story
• How long until it comes out!
