In this hack n’ slash shooter, you play a squad member of the Deep Space Vanguard. A race of arachnid aliens is taking over planets and destroying other life. Starship Troopers Extermination directly tackles combat with these arachnids. The game keeps fighting interesting with both a variety of different arachnid types, and a wide variety of numbers. Players may find themselves up against a single arachnid, or countless hoards. Combat tactics will have to change to reflect the species or number of enemy.
This game is based off of a novel and the 90s movie adaptation of it. Players in love with the cult-classic may find themselves charmed by seeing the movie come to life in game form.
Multiplayer
Starship Troopers Extermination puts players in a squad by name, but it’s not just NPCs you are playing with. Players also have the option to join forces with other players, adding an exciting element to the game. On top of being multiplayer, there are three different distinct class types you can play. Each one gives the player different abilities that help them work better as a team. This makes gameplay more exciting, and a team truly act like a team.
Class Progression
The game gives you a reason besides doing the right thing to keep killing spiders. It offers a class progression system that unlocks new weapons, equipment, and perks as you accomplish more in the game.
Huge maps
The game does a great job of showing the vastness of the planets being swarmed. Maps are gigantic, and there are several objectives on each map to help keep players occupied. Objectives include things like retaking bases or destroying a hive.
The game has a definite Left 4 Dead feel but with spider hoards instead of zombie hoards. To make things a little bit easier for players while navigating these enormous maps, the game has a ping system that helps draw attention of the other players to new discoveries one of the squad members have had. This can really help if the squad is spread out looking for a base, or accidentally stumbles across a spider hoard.
So-so Graphics
The game boasts that seeing hundreds of spiders at once contributes to the feeling of overwhelming battle. While it does a good job in this sense, up close, the spiders aren’t all that much to look at. The graphics in the game aren’t bad, but they’re not the best either.
If you were hoping for a spectacular visual display, this game isn’t it.
Starship Troopers Extermination is a first person shooter with vast amounts of enemies to kill. The multiplayer option helps add some fun to the game, while unlockable content gives you a reason to keep progressing. If you’re a fan of the cult classic film, this game may be right up your alley. If you’re hoping for something with better graphics, this may be one to skip out on.

Game Reviews
Starship Troopers: Extermination thrusts players into the midst of a fierce battle against the relentless Bug Menace, echoing the intensity and camaraderie found in the original films. Developed by Offworld Industries, known for their tactical shooter, Squad, this cooperative first-person shooter invites up to 16 players to band together as members of the Deep Space Vanguard. Set in a universe steeped in sci-fi lore, this early access title promises thrilling action, resource gathering, and strategic base building in a war for humanity's survival.
Team-Based Tactics and Gameplay Mechanics
At its core, Extermination shines through its team-based gameplay, allowing players to coordinate efforts against swarming hordes of Arachnids. The game’s PvE mechanics emphasize collaboration, where each squad member can select from six distinct classes, including the assault-ready Ranger and the life-saving Medic. This diversity enables players to tailor their experience and ensures that every role is vital in overcoming the escalating Bug threat.
As players embark on missions across diverse planets like Valaka and Agni-Prime, they must gather resources and fortify bases against incoming waves of enemies. The base-building aspect enhances the gameplay experience, providing an additional layer of strategy as players construct defenses such as walls, ammo stations, and lookouts. These defenses are crucial, especially as the game features dynamic objectives that are semi-randomly generated, adding an element of unpredictability to each session.
Communication is essential in Extermination, and the inclusion of a ping system reminiscent of Titanfall makes coordinating tactics effortless, even amidst the chaos of battle. Players can quickly alert their teammates to enemy locations or resource opportunities, fostering a collaborative environment that heightens the game's overall immersion.
Immersive Visuals and Audio Experience
Visually, Starship Troopers: Extermination delivers a stunningly detailed aesthetic that pays homage to the beloved original films. The graphics effectively capture the hostile environments and the sheer scale of the Bug hordes, with intricate designs that bring the alien landscape to life. Each planet feels unique, with various zones that enhance replayability and keep players engaged.
The audio design complements the visual elements, featuring a soundtrack that evokes the intense atmosphere of the original Starship Troopers movie. This combination of visuals and sound creates a captivating experience, immersing players in the chaotic battlefield while they fend off waves of ferocious foes.
As an early access title, Extermination is still in development, promising additional content updates that will introduce new maps, weapons, perks, and game modes. This continual evolution hints at a bright future for the game, as Offworld Industries listens to player feedback to refine and expand the experience.
