While StarRupture is in early access as I write this, I cannot think of another shooter that I have had as much fun with, playing with my buddies, as this one!
Lost Planet Extreme Condition!
Remember that game? It was awesome! Anyway, the premise of this is that we are part of a crew who have landed on this planet to try and mine its valuable resources. However, we need to establish a base and mining operation, which is easier said than done! Turns out that this planet has some very extreme conditions and is constantly changing! Not only that, there are tons of monstrous alien creatures that are not too thrilled about us being on their turf!
Monster Alien Bugs
StarRupture has base building and resource gathering, which is a major parts of the game. However, it was the whole first-person shooter aspect of it that clicked with me the most. This is just a really fun game to actually play. You can play it on your own, and that is fun. However, I had the most fun playing with a couple of friends. I kind of took the role of the security guy who would try to handle the threats while they did the science stuff. The game already has a decent amount of content, and the way the planet can change up so no two play-throughs are exactly the same is a lot of fun.
Two Iconic Styles
For me, the first two things that came to my mind when playing the game were that this planet kind of reminds me of Skull Island from King Kong and the bug planet from Starship Troopers! For an early access game, it looks pretty cool, and I got a real kick out of how awesome some of the creepy alien monsters looked. I did notice a few frame rate dips when things got heated, but to be fair, for an early access game, I had far, far fewer technical issues than I was expecting. One of my friends has a very modest PC setup, and he never complained once.
I thought that StarRupture would be fun, but this completely blew me away, and over the last week, it has been pretty much all my buddies, and I have played when gaming together online.
Pros:
- I loved the premise of the story
- The FPS gameplay is a lot of fun
- I liked collecting resources and building our base
Cons:
- It is still in early access as I write this
- I did notice some framerate dips when the action got hot
