Racing games come in all shapes and sizes, and this can make it hard for gamers to choose a suitable medium. However, Milestone released title RIDE is hugely popular. Since it was first released in 2015, the series has since spawned other titles and is now rated as one of the flagship titles within the racing world. For that reason, RIDE is a popular pick for those who enjoy bike-based racing and who want something that can feel pretty authentic.
Taking on other bike-based games like World Rally Championship and MotoGP is never easy, but it is entirely possible. How, then, does RIDE stack? Does it manage to land a podium finish in what is a very crowded field?
Intricate racing with much to unlock
One of the most important things that you can do when it comes to playing RIDE is understand that this is a more challenging simulation. While you can adjust the settings to make it more arcade-like, RIDE does tend to be aimed at people who want to really take the riding experience quite seriously. Various options exist that allow you to put in place numerous aids, boosts, and more – all of which can play a big role in making sure you can have a lot of fun as soon as you get on the bike for the first time.
However, one thing to note about RIDE is that it can be a lot of fun for those who like to take things seriously. If you enjoy game series like Forza, then you will find a similar sense of realism and achievement within RIDE.
Expert racing with enough variety to keep you lapping (8/10)
Overall, the majority of players should find a happy home in RIDE. It is a racing game with much achievement in-game for you to overcome, racing through numerous tracks, tournaments, and events. The bike selection is tremendous, as well, making sure you can enjoy riding various bikes that you might have dreamt of doing so in real life. The game, though, is also respected for being more accessible – it can be made to be very beginner friendly whilst also having enough options to crank up the difficulty.
At the same time, though, you might want to take a look at RIDE on a modern console. On its original release on the likes of the PS3/Xbox 360, loading times were dreadful. If you either don’t mind long loading times or can play on a more modern machine, though, RIDE should offer you plenty of opportunities to have a little fun.
One of the main things to keep in mind about RIDE is that the challenge can be adjusted. For a more accessible motorbike game, then, be sure to look at RIDE.
Pros:
- Huge amount of in-game content for you to work through and enjoy.
- Great selection of popular bikes and tracks from the racing world.
- Excellent visuals, ensuring that tracks look and feel realistic.
Cons:
- Poor loading times can make race-to-race delays needlessly long.
