In order to escape, you'll have to uncover the secrets that lie below the mansion and ultimately solve the case that initially brought you to Raccoon City. Whether you've played the original game or not, Resident Evil HD Remaster is a masterpiece of its own.
Main Game Features
- Terrifying survival horror gameplay
- Two unique playable characters
- Unlockable modes, weapons, and costumes
Story
In Resident Evil HD Remaster, you play as either Jill Valentine or Chris Redfield, two highly-trained members of an elite police squad. After a previous squad goes missing in the outskirts of Raccoon City, your team is sent to investigate. Some light searching uncovers the downed helicopter of the missing squad, but there's something lurking in the surrounding forest. Suddenly, the team is attacked by a pack of diseased dogs, forcing you and your squadmates to retreat into a nearby mansion. Safe from the terrors outside, you and your squad must explore the luxurious yet ominous Spencer Mansion, which is crawling with all manner of undead creatures. With limited ammo and healing supplies, you must survive the night or fall victim to the mansion's terrifying inhabitants.
Gameplay
Resident Evil HD Remaster plays very similarly to the original game in terms of layout and progression, but with notably improved graphics and an improved control system. There are two characters to choose from, either the stoic and strong Chris Redfield or the agile and intelligent Jill Valentine. Both characters have unique strengths and offer a slightly different path through the mansion. For example, Chris is generally stronger and more powerful, able to withstand multiple attacks before dying. Jill, while not as buff as Chris, can hold more items in her inventory and bypass some doors with her lockpick. Regardless of which character you choose, your journey through the Spencer Mansion and beyond is full of suspense and action.
Although you are equipped with firearms to defeat the monsters lurking in the mansion, Resident Evil HD Remaster encourages players to be stealthy and evasive. Ammo and healing supplies are incredibly limited and the enemies pack a significant punch, so it's often better to avoid combat altogether. As you weave through the mansion's twisting halls, you'll find puzzles to solve and traps to bypass, always keeping you on your toes. With limited room in your inventory, you'll have to plan out your path properly, as every item takes up valuable space. Your game can only be saved in a few set locations, and with a limited number of saves, failure can cause you to lose significant progress. Although the gunplay can feel a bit awkward at times, Resident Evil HD Remaster will get your blood pumping with several fantastic combat sequences and boss fights.
Conclusion
Simply put, Resident Evil HD Remaster is one of the most influential and anxiety-inducing games of all time. Considered by many to be an utter masterpiece of survival horror, Resident Evil HD Remaster is a must-play for any fan of the genre. When compared to third-person horror games in the modern era, Resident Evil HD Remaster has some annoying quirks, but nothing that outright ruins the experience.
Between the inventive creature designs, intelligent puzzles, and overwhelming atmosphere of terror, this title will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you're never taken the plunge into the iconic Spencer Mansion before, do yourself a favor and play Resident Evil HD Remaster.
