Ready or Not: Home Invasion is a take on a game that came out a couple of years back and this is like a bit of an expansion and a damn fine one at that. I will say that I have been playing this with my friends for a few weeks and we have had a blast, but I am not sure how much fun I would have if I were playing this with random people if you get what I am saying. It is a bit more of a tactical shooter, but it still has a ton of action.
Some Real Civil Unrest
There is not exactly a story to play through in Ready or Not: Home Invasion, but what we do have is a pretty solid premise. There has been a massive hurricane that has caused devastation across the city and we are part of a crack team that is there to try and stop all of the civil unrest that is going on. From increased gang activity where gangs are trying to take advantage of the situation to looters trying to steal stuff and just cause trouble due to all of the hysteria that is going on due to the storm! The game does a good job of giving you a small idea of what it must be like for emergency responders during a situation like this.
Three New Maps
With Ready or Not: Home Invasion you are getting three new maps to wage war on. Greenside sees a bunch of homeless people trying to keep off the streets due to all the trouble and you need to keep the windows and doors barricaded to ensure that there is nothing bad getting into the house. 213 Park has been devastated by the storm and this has led to increased gang activity in the area that you now need to deal with. Redwood is the nicer part of town and here we have looters that appear to be more organized than usual and you need to keep them at bay.
New Gear For A New Threat
As well as getting three new maps and scenarios to play on Ready or Not: Home Invasion also gives you some new gear that you can deck yourself out with. While getting new weapons is cool, these are all so awesomely designed and feel great to use, my personal favorite is the FN 509 Pistols which are so much fun to use. However, as well as a solid variety of various guns, you get a bunch of new gear that you can wear and this gear comes in a vast selection of colors. I was honestly very impressed with the amount of new gear that this expansion offered.
That Same Level Of Tactical Realism
The thing with Ready or Not: Home Invasion is that much like the base Ready of Not game, this is more of a tactical and thinking persons shooter. Hey do not get me wrong, there are still some badass, tense, and fun firefights in the game, but the real fun this offers is working with your team and trying to execute a plan and then dealing with what happens when that plan fails. One of the things that impressed the hell out of me with the base game was the very smart AI and that is the case here. I have not played this with random people, but as a game with your friends for a gaming night, you will struggle to top this.
The thing with Ready or Not: Home Invasion is that this is a very easy game for me to recommend or for me to tell you to stay away from. Did you like the original Ready or Not? If you said yes, you will like this, actually, I like this more than the base game! However, if you did not like the tactical style of shooter action that the base game offered, I do not think that this is going to win you over either. As you have probably guessed, you will need the base game in order to play this as it will not work on its own.
Pros:
- I like what this has even more than the base game
- I loved the story of dealing with the aftermath of a devastating storm
- There are many fun new guns to use and some cool gear to equip
- This is just so much fun to play with your friends
Cons:
- If the base game did not win you over, this will not either
- I do not think it will have the same charm if you are not communicating with people as you play
