Quantum Redshift

I looked at the cover of this game and decided that it was the worst 'retro'? looking piece of crap cover I'd seen since the Sega genesis game 'Eternal Heroes (phew!). But if there was ever an example of 'don't judge a book by its cover'? in video games this is this one.

Borrowing heavily from the super popular racing combat game WipeOut and subsequently XGIII, Quantum Redshift ups the ante by providing sharp graphics, easy controls, next-generation light sourcing and something new' a back story. After all this time, someone finally made a futuristic racing/combat game where characters have long standing rivalries and conflicted pasts.

And you know what? It really adds a little something extra to the game. Granted, since the game takes place on another world, the language spoken is gibberish, but the subtitles allow players to get into the dynamic of the heated rivalries. If that isn't enough, each race also has your nemesis racing against you'that one racer who you have a lot of history with, none of it good.

Since the object of the game is to work your way through the tournament, the basis of all the races is to finish first and acquire as much money as possible. Finishing first will get you the most cash, but so will collecting icons (also worth cash), having the fastest lap and killing your fellow racers, specifically your nemesis. Destroying your nemesis will garner twice the cash of a normal kill.

But all the back-story in world doesn't mean squat if you don't have the horsepower under the hood, and Quantum Redshift does. With paint-peeling frame rates and smooth, fluid controls, it takes even the most uncoordinated player almost no time to get into the control groove. Racing fans take note; here is another example of why you bought an Xbox.
