Pokemon Y

Pokemon is the biggest franchise in the world, and it had one of its biggest rides on the Nintendo DS with a lot of games released. But when Nintendo released the 3DS every Pokemon fan in the world was incredibly excited about the possibilities of the new incredible console, and what it could mean for the franchise. So, as soon as Nintendo and Gamefreak announced Pokemon Y and its partner game, the whole world went crazy. They went ahead and created a beautiful trailer, the Pokemon franchise was back, and it was packing. So, is Pokemon Y the next step for the Pokemon series? Well, Let’s talk about it!

About the game

Pokemon X / Y is the materialization of all the effort and dedication invested since the nineties. A release that inaugurates the sixth generation in the saga in the best possible way, recovering classic aspects of the series while we receive several new features that refine the original formula. First for being the first portable pokemon to be completely rendered in 3D, and second for presenting a set of features (more species, reinvented connectivity, mega-evolutions, etc.). Every Pokemon video game has its origin in a region. This time it is Kalos, a really big territory, star-shaped, which proposes a journey from city to city through multiple routes. A familiar scheme, which increases the level of pokemon and the consequent difficulty in combat as time goes by. Specifically, about 35-40 hours if we do not stop too much, and more than a hundred in case we decide to explore it completely.

Forests, caves, beaches... The variety and beauty of the landscapes are one of the aspects that we liked most about the work because each step is a discovery. And while we're on the subject of steps, the control of our character is still somewhat archaic (still limited by the eight directions on the crosshead). It is not unsatisfactory, especially when we have the shoes to run from the beginning of our journey, as well as means of locomotion such as skates or a bike (with which we interact through the analog stick). This makes our particular Pokemon pilgrimage much more bearable. And we haven't even talked about what's probably the main star of the gameplay in Pokemon Y: Mega evolutions

Pokemon Mega Evolution

The mega-evolution of Pokemon, besides being the main thread of the adventure, is an interesting novelty in the dynamics of Pokemon battles: with the help of the Mega Ring and its respective Mega Stone, some Pokemon such as Mewtwo, Charizard, Absol or Lucario can mega-evolve during the battle and attack in the same turn. The strategy will be conditioned by the fact that only one of your Pokemon can Mega Evolve in a battle: although several Pokemon can carry their Mega Stone and potentially Mega Evolve, once you have Mega Evolved one Pokemon, even if you trade it or weaken it, the rest cannot do the same. we can't do the same. And the surprise is not small: mega-evolution increases some of its characteristics grants new abilities or even changes its type in the same turn.

9.5

Technically Pokemon Y comes is the next pokemon game after the release of Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2, and with a completely improved gameplay, excellent visuals, new mechanics, new pokemon, more Story, more legendaries, and an incredibly social multiplayer, Pokemon Y checks all the right boxes. If there is one clear thing, it's that Pokemon Y is the first step in a new direction for the franchise.

Pros:

  • Amazing graphics
  • Great soundtrack
  • New Pokemon
  • More story
  • More legendary pokemon

Cons:

  • Pacing issues
