I love horror games, and Paragnosia is one of the best that I have had the pleasure to play over the last couple of years.
Who You Gonna Call? Yourself!
The premise of this game is awesome! You play the role of a guy who has been haunted by these evil anomalies in his place, and he now has a chance to stop them. If he can capture them with his fancy camera, which is on a rail system, before they can unlock all the locks and get into his hideout, he can survive the night! This is really cool stuff, and if you are a horror fan, you will love the way that the game makes you feel like you are actually part of this story.
Lights, Camera, Ghosts
The gameplay of Paragnosia is pretty awesome, and while you may think it is like Fatal Frame as you are exorcising ghosts with a camera, this is very much its own thing. The twist here is that we are locked in a safe room, but we can move the camera around the apartment with this rail system. We need to try to find the anomalies before they can destroy the camera and get into the office. If we miss six anomalies, it is game over, and they are coming for us. However, if we can survive until the end, with just one lock still in place, we have managed to survive. This is not a super-long game, but it is a very well-made and fun one, especially if you love horror.
A Creepy Way To Spend An Evening
I am a huge fan of the overall visual style that they have gone for here. The game takes place through a camera, and it may sound silly, but this is one of the best-looking camera filters I have seen in a game. The ghosts, spirits, anomalies, or whatever you want to call them, are creepy enough, but when one of them catches you out of the corner of your eye, that will straight send shivers down your spine. I think that they did a good job here, and for a game that is all about a moving camera, I never felt any kind of motion sickness as I was playing it.
I had a feeling that I was going to like Paragnosia, but this ended up being way better than I could have imagined. For horror fans, this is a must-play.
Pros:
- The whole premise of the story was awesome
- This game made me jump on several occasions
- I liked the camera filter
- It is pretty exciting and scary stuff!
Cons:
- I wish they fleshed things out just a tad more
- The jump scares may be too much for some people
