Is there anything better than a cute girl interested in you? In One Night With Kawaii, you’ll get to select one of several adorable girls to spend time with in a small country cottage. Unfortunately, she plans to kill you, so you’ll spend most of your time running and hiding from that girl.

One Night With Kawaii is a fresh, indie game developed by PE4ENEGI GAMES. A relatively new company, they have just one other game under their belt released in May.

5 Lives

The game gives you a generous 5 lives when escaping from whichever of the 14 girls you selected to run from. If you are caught 5 times, you have to start the level over. There is an abundance of places to hide, but you can only stay there a short while or she will find you. If you are caught, there’s a short sequence where you are brutally murdered by the kawaii girl, so it’s best to play hard to get with these ladies.

Find the Keys

Hidden throughout the cottage are 5 keys you will need to find in order to escape. They are spread around the cottage, forcing you to move instead of just hide forever. To make things even more difficult, the keys are often hidden in rooms that require tools, which you will also have to find, in order to access them. If you’ve ever played Granny’s, you have the basic understanding of the game. Graphics and Animation

The graphics in the game are fairly good for the price-point of this game. The backgrounds are detailed and clear, the characters have a strong sense of style and are well-developed. Unfortunately, the animation looks a little odd. The characters as they are walking appear to glide rather than walk, and don’t appear natural. This is a small detail, but it’s fairly noticeable.

Fairly interesting levels

Each level is different, placing you in everything from a small, confined area (the cottage) to a more open location (a garage.) Each section is unique and provides its own challenges. The characters chasing you never go faster than a walk, giving you time to plan out where to go or to find a place to hide.

Although the characters are slow, they are very persistent. Hiding a long time won’t do you any good. You’ll have to think on your feet to escape them and find all the keys.

With a game that’s so fresh and new, it’s difficult to say how good this game will be just yet. There could be a lot of bugs, or problems with the game that have not yet become apparent. As the game stands however, this looks like it could be a fresh new take on a hide-and-seek style game. If you enjoyed Granny’s but would rather be chased by someone as kawaii as they are dangerous, this is a great choice. If you’re not into hide-and-seek style games, this might be one to pass.
