My Scene

My Scene came in the era when selling toys through video games was a must. It’s surely one of the worst moments of the gaming era, nonetheless, it left us with some interesting hidden gems. Of course, My Scene isn’t one of these gems, as it’s one of those games oriented towards entertaining children with small and not-challenging quests, and nothing interesting to bring to the table.

The format is simple; this one is a point-and-click game that follows the story of three girls, Maddison, Chelsea, and Barbie. Barbie and Maddison are planning a surprise party for Chelsea, and you, as the player, have to help her.

My Scene Experience

It’s fair to say that My Scene has a lot more to offer than other games with the same style, like most of the Barbie titles, including the hideous Barbie Riding Club game. Here, you can explore the entire city completing quests. All the objective is to do the preparatives to throw the best party ever.

You’ll control Barbie, who has the mission of buying clothes, party food, and gifts for Chelsea. The map is big, so you have to explore it by taking the metro. In fact, the game is long, but you’ll be doing the same things over and over again.

And there’s a thing that can annoy everyone, for sure. The game gets constantly interrupted by small quizzes that don’t affect the story at all. On top of that, the quizzes don’t really ask interesting questions; there are questions like “what would you rather do with your BFF? or If your BFF is on her birthday, but another friend invited you to a concert of your favorite band, what will you do?

It’s hard to think like a teenager of that time, but I’m sure they wouldn’t help much with the game experience.

My Scene is Ugly and Beautiful

The street visuals are pretty simple but at the same time, are the best part of the game. The drawings are beautiful and you can stare at them for hours to find details.

On the other side, the main characters’ design is creepy and feels out of place with the rest of the NPCs out there, which have way better designs. The worst one by far is Barbie, which has messy and ugly hair and her body shape is just strange. There’s no excuse; if you, as a developer, did a good job creating NPCs, why you didn’t do the same thing with the main characters?

The objects and the menu aren’t good either. They are pretty bland.

• It has some interesting visuals, and the streets are delightful to see
• This isn’t a short game, so it’ll keep you entertained for a long time

Cons

• If you didn’t enjoy this game back then when it got released, you’ll not do it today
• It’s slow, boring, and it gets constantly interrupted by no-sense quizzes
