Modern Combat 5: Blackout

Many users of iOS and Android systems were looking forward to enjoying the new batch of shooting and action that Modern Combat 5: Blackout brings us. And the truth is that after a long wait, we can finally get fully into this outstanding first-person shooter. Gameloft's revered saga of subjective shooters, Modern Combat, returns with a bang. Yes, because this fifth edition of the same has left us quite astonished due to its multiple playable qualities, intense game modes, and, why not mention, its extraordinary audiovisual level. So, let's talk about this game and see what's new for the mobile shooter gamers!

About the game

The plot puts us in the shoes of a former marine named Cayden Phoenix, who works for an organization... from which he later intends to flee and, if possible, to bury! He soon realizes the deception to which the private security group Gilman Security has subjected him. From there he must make his way through five levels divided into several sections, chapters that will take us halfway around the world (from Venice to Tokyo, through Gilman's own facilities), having to fulfill a series of missions in each of them.

As usual in this type of title, the game consists of several game modes. The campaign mode that we were talking about a moment ago has an approximate duration of four or five hours, depending on our skill level. This figure can be considered somewhat scarce but, as things stand within the genre, it does not seem to us a too serious flaw. And the other game modes do more than enough to fill the space.

After all, most of the players that enjoy first-person shooter games, play them mostly for their online modes. And to see who’s the best in competitive events and even battle royales. So, the fact that the campaign mode is a bit short doesn't really matter that much. And, at least, the story is quite good, so we don't feel too bad about it. Regarding the graphics, they are absolutely fantastic, which is no surprise considering that the game was developed by Gameloft. The locations, the characters, the weapons, everything looks perfect. And the audiovisual quality is also very high since the developers have made use of real-time lighting effects and dynamic shadows.

A tough market

One of the things we have to consider is that it can be pretty hard to compete in the mobile game market. Even when it comes to FPS titles, some of the most popular triple-A games have their very own mobile version. From Fortnite, even though it's no longer available for iOS for legal issues, to Valorant and Call of Duty Mobile. These games all have incredible quality, so even though Gameloft has been on the mobile market for a longer time, they are still a smaller company.

Considering all this, they did an amazing job creating an incredible shooter game capable to compete among the greatest out there.
