Baseball has been one of the most beloved sports in the world, especially in the United States and Japan. MLB Power Pros 2008 was released for the Nintendo DS, Playstation 2, and Wii in 2008. Published by 2K Sports and developed by Konami, it found a place among fans of the sport that were looking for a more casual gaming experience than competitors offered at the time.

And Baseball For All…

Baseball games, much like every sports game out there, have grown increasingly complex and more realistic. Being able to fully grasp, and play the game in its entirety is usually a task that requires commitment and practice. Thankfully, there are still games like MLB Power Pros 2008 that welcomes everyone to have fun. Don’t get fooled by its appearance, this game is a tribute to sports, and is sure entertainment for families and children.

The first iteration of MLB Power Pros received great reviews and found success in the eastern market after being a staple in Japan for a while. MLB Power Pros 2008 takes everything that was loved such as a wide array of customization, easy-to-learn controllers, and multiple game modes, and expands upon it. Controls here have also been given an option for real-time pitching which can be activated or deactivated at will, which changes the difficulty of the game overall.

One, Two, Three Modes You’re Out

One of the best additions to the game is the Success Mode, which plays like a story-driven, anime-like campaign. It follows the journey of your created Wii as he builds his career in Powerful University under The Tulips team. This campaign mixes RPG elements, multiple endings, and different goals you can pursue. Most of the activities are related to school somehow, such as homework, and balancing studies with practice. These things expand the simulation aspect of the game. Building stats and choosing different abilities and skills make this mode more robust than what you would expect from a cartoonish game.

The MLB Life mode is back, and much like in its predecessor here gamers can take a player and follow their career on and off-field While this mode is fairly similar to the Success Mode, yet you get to perform challenges, build relationships, receive donations, shop for cars and houses, and even find a girlfriend. You can do it over the course of twenty seasons, which basically sees you retiring your player. Stat boosting, practice mode, and upgrades are all available to build the ultimate baseball star. This game mode adds over seventy hours of content to the game, which is the most serious and competitive MLB Power Pros 2008 gets.

Conclusion

MLB Power Pros 2008 is not the ultimate baseball simulator, yet is a fun game that can be as casual as jumping into a random match, and as competitive as playing over 75 hours of a campaign mode.
