Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes is a spin-off adventure in one of the most respected gaming franchises of all time, beckoning you and your friends to tackle its multiplayer adventure. Unlike previous multiplayer games in the series, Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes rewards cooperation and communication, as you must work diligently with your friends to make progress. With a terrible curse befalling a fabulous kingdom, it's up to you and your group of fashionable heroes to defeat enemies, solve puzzles, and save the day!

Main Game Features

  • Adventure through the kingdom of Hytopia
  • Playable either solo or with three players
  • Supports local and online multiplayer

Story

The narrative universe in The Legend Of Zelda franchise is incredibly complex, so it's important to note where Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes falls in with the rest. Taking place a few years after The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, this game represents its own timeline branch, further skewering the events in later games. In this adventure, you explore Hytopia, a kingdom full of fashionable lords and ladies. One day, an evil witch known only as the “Lady” puts a terrible curse on royal Princess Styla, costuming her in an ugly jumpsuit for all time.

Worried that Princess Styla is forever destined to be unfashionable, her father King Tuft sends out a call to any able-bodied adventurer who thinks that they can lift the curse. Although many Hytopians come to King Tuft's aid, he is only confident in Link and his companions, who head to the dangerous Drablands to find the witch and restore Hytopia back to glory. Some parts of the narrative can be very gimmicky, but overall, it's a fun off-shoot adventure in the unique world of Zelda.

Gameplay

Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes plays from a top-down perspective, similar to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures. Although the game can be played as a solo adventure, it is designed to be played either online or locally with three friends. Unfortunately, there is no option to play with just two players, so you either have to play alone or with a full party of three. During the adventure, each player controls a different colored Link hero, battling enemies or working together to solve puzzles. Alternatively, if you play in single-player mode, you also control companion characters called Doppels.

Much like other games in the franchise, Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes mostly revolves around exploring Hytopia and the Drablands, where you must find and complete the seven temples that guard special items. There are many puzzles that involve stacking the players on top of each other, allowing them to reach higher ground, bypass environmental blockages, and more. All players share one life bar, so it's important to communicate and avoid damage. When compared to other games in the series, Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes is somewhat basic, but it works due to the focus on multiplayer.

Conclusion

If you have two friends to play with and you don't mind some repetitive puzzles, Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes is an enjoyable trip through a stylish world. The unique areas of Hytopia are fun to explore and the boss fights are exciting, plus it's loads of fun to make the journey with friends.
