Knight Rider: The Game 2

Knight Rider: The Game 2 is the next game in a series based on a classic television show from the 80s. The game features Michael Knight and KITT, who zoom around on various missions to save the world. In Knight Rider 2 for the Ps2, weapons have been added to make the game even more fun.

Subpar gameplay

Unfortunately, Knight Rider 2 has a long way to go if it wants to be a decent game. It features almost the exact same storyline as Knight Rider, with almost the exact same missions. The missions themselves are grindy and repetitive, which is disappointing because there is more than enough material from the 80s TV show to make for good gameplay. Add to this controls that feel clunky and below average graphics, and you get at best a B list game. Although it is better than Knight Rider: The Game by virtue of being longer and with more missions, it still has a long way to go.

Confusing opening

The game has an opening trailer, but it provides very little context as to what is going on at any point and time. The flashback is for “two years earlier,” but there’s no reference point as to when the player is coming from. There’s no dialogue or useful information, it simply shows the ‘bad’ KITT escaping something, falling into water, and then presumably wanting revenge.

The game then dumps you into play mid-intro with no tutorial, no warning you are now in control of the vehicle, and no explanation of how to jump or maneuver. You may find yourself failing the mission several times before you figure out which buttons controls the cars ability to jump, tip on two wheels, or other similar tricks.

Repetitive gameplay

Nearly all the missions are the same. You are driving around obstacles with the goal of successfully getting through with a limited amount of damage to KITT. KITT will complain if he takes on damage, saying things like, “That hurts, Michael,” or “I have powerful brakes, you know.”

In one mission a helicopter is sent after you, but the helicopter always shoots directly in front of the vehicle, and rarely seems to aim at KITT itself. The worst that it does is blow holes in a bridge, which can be driven around easily.

5

Knight Rider: The Game 2 has very little to offer fans of the series, or even people who simply like driving games. It’s very poorly done, and while it may provide cheap thrills for children, there’s not too much to entertain adults with it. If you’re looking for a racing game with some excitement to it, you might be better off with Mashed: Drive to Survive. It has a similar vehicular combat theme, but with better graphics, an improved plot, and also available on Playstation 2.

Pros:

  • Better than the original game, Knight Rider: The Game

Cons:

  • Clunky controls
  • Poor graphics
  • Lack of tutorial
  • Recycled plot
