Brought to us by the MK team, Injustice 2: Legendary Edition is one of the greatest fighting games that you will ever play. Think of this as a game of the year edition of this amazing fighting game and you are on the right track of what to expect here. The thing is, this was completely worth it as the extra DLC characters are fantastic and they also added a couple more things to the game as well. I would actually rank this high on my list of greatest DC video games, not just fighting games!
The Fall Of Superman
Injustice 2: Legendary Edition follows on from the events of the first game. Superman’s losing his crap and taking over the world as a dictator has left the world deeply scarred. Batman leads a team that is trying to restore order to the world, but a new threat rises. On Earth, Gorilla Grodd is leading a team of villains, but things take a turn for the worse when Brainiac shows up.
The story in this game is just fantastic. You get to play as various DC characters and the new characters they added to the game, especially Supergirl are developed very well. You even get a choice to make at the end of the game so you have two endings.
The Roster To End All Roster!
What makes Injustice 2: Legendary Edition the ultimate version of Injustice 2 is the roster. The game already had a fantastic roster, but the added characters that were released as DLC are awesome. My personal favorites are the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Starfire. Now, the Turtles do take up one character slot and what weapon you select will dictate what Turtle you play as, but they are still awesome.
Other notable characters include Sub-Zero and Hellboy with a bit of crossover fun! As well as the stacked roster, they also introduced a fantastic new tutorial system. This is one of the best tutorial systems that I have encountered in a fighting game.
The Finest
As well as the story mode, Injustice 2: Legendary Edition has plenty for you to do. You have your arcade mode where you can fight all the way to Brainiac to get the ending of your chosen character. The mode I love is the Multiverse mode. Here you have to fight a series of battles with various objectives, buffs, and de-buffs added to the battles. Of course, you also have your multiplayer to show of your skills as well.
Not Pulling Punches!
The actual fighting mechanics of this game are great. They are similar to what the modern Mortal Kombat games offer, but they are also their own thing if that makes sense. This is just such a satisfying game to play. I love how the game feels and this version is a little bit more refined. It is one of those fighting games that is very easy to pick up and play, but there is also a level of intricacy here that makes it a very competitive fighting game for those that want to play this competitively.
Let’s Talk About Gear!
Ok, so there are microtransactions in Injustice 2: Legendary Edition, but I have never spent a penny on this game, and not once have I felt like I was missing out. It has these “mother boxes” that are basically loot boxes. You can get gear for your characters which will give them stat boosts and also change the way they look. I know a system like this may throw up a red flag, but it is actually one of the better ones I have seen in a game.
I really cannot say enough positive things about this game. I thought that the original game was great, but I do feel that as an actual fighting game, Injustice 2: Legendary Edition is the better game. I will say that I did slightly prefer the story of the first game, but this eclipses it in every way.
If you like DC characters, if you like fighting games, hell if you just like good games. You are not going to be disappointed with this game.
Pros:
- The roster of fighters here is fantastic
- The game looks like a movie
- This is a fighting game that is easy to pick up and play, but hard to master
- It is stacked with content
Cons:
- I do think I slightly prefer the story from the first game
- Why the heck has there not been an Injustice 3 announced yet?
