Hard times in Hornstown

The first thing to know about Hard times in Hornstown is that it is NOT a visual novel game. This is a text-based sandbox style of game and it is a game where a great deal of the fun of it is going to depend on your imagination. These types of games are usually aimed at a very specific kind of person and for someone like me, I tend to have a hard time getting into a game like this. However, I can certainly appreciate what is on offer here and no matter what your kink is, chances are it is in this game!

A Guy Wanting More From Life

Talking about the story of Hard times in Hornstown is kind of hard. The most basic thing I can tell you is that we create a character who is a bit of a loser and he wants more from life. It is up to us the players to make this happen for him. There are many different story routes that can happen in this game.

There is one that is about prison, one about a maid, one about being a bit of a sissy! There is a ton going on here and you can be in the middle of different routes at the same time so it can be a bit hard to keep track of all of what is going on.

The Character Of Your Dreams

The gameplay on offer here is best described as a time management game. You need a job and you need to make money so that you can cover your basic expenses. Hard times in Hornstown is not too harsh in this regard to be fair, but it can still feel a bit grindy. While you have to make money, you also have to improve your sexual stats and this will help you progress through various situations in the game.

The character creation aspect in this game is amazing. Nothing is left unturned; you can decide what kind of character you want to be such as a strong masculine dude or someone who is wanting to be a female. I am sure this is the kind of game that for the right person would be very, very addictive.

Like A Good Book

As this is a text-based adventure game the visuals are rather minimalistic. There are portraits for most of the game and these very rarely change, they change depending on where you are at and who you are talking to, but there is not a great deal going on here which can make things get a bit stale.

You get to see the characters clothed and naked, but a great deal of the sex is described to you and left up to your imagination. For the right kind of player, this can be great, but for me, I needed a bit more.

• You have interesting ways to make money
• The game is pretty huge
• You have many story paths to go down

• It is a text-based game and that might not be for you
• Some of the story paths I played were not finished and caused the game to crash
